Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all who had showed up for the BLM at the meeting last night.
I know it can be hard to make the time for the meetings, especially for those living out of town, but I was SO pleased to see that room PACKED!
Great to see some new faces as well as some familiar ones who had not been in a while!!

Sorry I couldn't make it, I am in Las Vegas all week, be sure to tip your waitress...

How did the meeting go?

+1
Thanks to the club for setting up this meeting.

I came in without a clue of the BLM's position and intentions, and left an informed citizen!

The BLM seems to have a good attitude towards roads and recreation. I was (as I'm sure we all were) quite fearful of the type of mass and arbitrary closures like we've seen in FS managed lands. I can now say that I am resting a bit easier now concerning the future of our roads in BLM territory.

Not to slight the positive feelings most of us felt after last night's meeting with Dan & Colleen, local BLM Planners, but closure decisions come from the legislative branch not the BLM directly; and certainly not from the local planning level. Having said that it certainly is great to have open minded planners like Dan and Colleen working with us!

It is vitally important we keep in regular communication with our Senators and Congressmen about our interests with respect to recreational enjoyment of our wild lands especially from a motorized access viewpoint. And equally important we all support organizations like the Blue Ribbon Coalition, and the many other regional organizations that fight the vigilant fight on behalf of our interests.

Thanks,

Dan Streight

Well said and I couldn't agree more!!
As and advocate for land use and our 2a rights I'm learning more and more that regular contact w/ our congress is a MUST!!

Agreed, my comment about me resting easier did not mean I'm complacent by any means. I'm just glad that they seem to have an open and pragmatic attitude towards recreational land use.
In the past I've attended similar Q&A functions with the FS and usually left feeling worse off that when I came.
Last night I felt I got some real insight into the process, and have a better understanding of our role in this.

Amen

At least as of a few years ago, BRC and Cal 4 Wheel were the only 4WD organizations with full time lawyers fighting for vehicle access, while those fighting against fair use have legions of lawyers.
