Are your HC readings that you gave correct? They always read them in Parts per million.
Even if this was the case, 176 and 88 are both OK.
The CO readings on the other hand, shouldn't have passed. Assuming your rig is 8500 GVW or less, the maximum allowable is 1.20% CO. Regardless, congratulations!
Your high CO readings would give you an indicator as to whats wrong. Fixing it could drastically improve MPG and performance.
Some reasons are; Rich air fuel mixture, Restiction of the air intake(lean air/rich fuel), Insufficient crankcase ventilation or oil diluted with fuel, and Canister puge malfunction.
A quick way to check the canister purge system for proper operation is to pinch off the purge hose from its entry to the manifold. If a large change in idle quality or speed is noted, you have found a problem.
