Looking to do a little cold weather camping now that I'll have a serious tent off the back of the trailer. I'm looking at a 3 Dog model, and this guy seems to have some nice stuff....all the way up to Titanium models, that although a little pricey...weigh nothing compared to a steel model.

Three Dog DX Camp Stove - Four Dog Stove Co.

I know other companies make some "knockdown" models...but I think I'd rather have a one piece unit, especially if I'm going to be sleeping in the same room with it.

What say Mud...any of you guys have direct experiences with tent stoves?

Thanks in advance.

I have a canvas outfitters tent. When I go mountain camping, I bring my tent stove. The main barrel is one piece. Can't recall the brand. It heats like crazy, though.

That looks like a Camp Chef.

Mine's a Cylinder Stove. I have the outfitter model. We've used it in a 16X20 wall tent with great results. I really like having the water heater on the side, too. One thing, if the water boils off, the heat from the stove will melt the plastic nut that holds the spigot on. Easy fix to get a brass nut.

They both look like similar designs.

I too have a cylinder stove for my 18x15 wall tent. I can get that thing so hot I sleep on top of the sleeping bag most of the time. It is a well built unit that stores everything inside...except for the spark arrester. I put a big unit on mine to prevent sparks from falling on the canvas and burning holes in it.

If you want a slow heat throughout the night, get lump coal. I get a good fire going then put a couple of big chunks right before bed. It will keep coals all night and if you need more heat in the middle of the night, just throw a few logs on and it will fire right up. Trust me; it sucks to start a fire at 5:00 in the morning when it's 5 degrees out.

Thanks guys..great info so far!

I really like the 3 and 4 dog stoves. I almost bought one when I bought my tent. I bought a used Duluth Campfire tent with the optional extra wall with the stove pipe hole. The fellow I bought it from had a 3 dog stove as well. I just didn't have the funds at the time or I would have bought it too. This was probably 10 years ago or so.

Those are the first ones I looked at when considering a stove. Look to be very well built.
