I will be doing sheet metal prep over the next few months and want to prime as I go in order to prevent surface rust between now and painting. I plan to paint with acrlyic enamel when the time comes. Is any ratlle can primer Ok for now with a good primer coat on top ofit when everything is finshed and ready to paint? Any other recommendations? Thanks.

I have had projects that sat for a long time with primer on em and you have to be careful cause the primer will adsorb moisture which could lead to problems painting. If it just going to be a couple months I would let it rust and POR15 it and go from there. Just my $0.02

If it is bare steel, I would etch-prime it, and then seal it.

When it comes time to paint it, scuff the sealer a bit, and hit it with your topcoat, and you will be fine.

Good luck!

second what poser stated. most primers are porous and will let water permeate. Unless you plan on sanding to bare metal before the real paint job, put a good etching primer on now, and a good sealer. Keep in mind, most primers/sealers are no where near as UV stable as a topcoat and they will degrade over time.
