I'm not sure if my 85 4runner 22RE temp is running a bit too high. It has a brand new radiator, hoses, thermostat, water pump, red coolant. While driving around town, the temp gauge reads about 2 needles above the midpoint. Should I replaced the fan clutch or install an electric fan. Thanks for the input.

try hooking up a gauge that tells actual temp before you start messing with stuff. It maybe a wonky sender. You sure you got the thermostat in right and its the right one. I have had duff thermostats that were fresh out of the box. You could boil it and see when it is opening. Test everything first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i bought the thermostat at a local Toyota dealer. The truck has 186k miles and I don't think the owner has ever replaced the sender unit. Also, the oil pressure gauge doesn't work. It may be time to take a trip to a local junkyard and get these sending units. I took another instrument cluster gauge and checked to see if the other gauge is malfunctioning. Same results. Should the temp open at 180 degrees F?

The thermostat will have its opening temp stamped on it somewhere. You can get several temps. I think 180 is probably around the normal range. If you just did all this work there is also the possibility that you are just airlocked. It can happen. All said and done you may just run a little hotter with this particular thermostat.

Take off the rad cap and run it with the heater on until she burps hopefully it will relieve the air. Other than that unless you can some how pressurize the system and force the air out you just have to play a waiting game.
