I would definitely advise freshening the head. It's a few bolts, and probably $300 or so... and you know if you don't, the second you get it all back together the HG will go. Hope everything works out with your Dad Jerry, LMK if you need anything on the home front. Happy to help out w/ the pups if need be.

Agreed, I'm trying to eliminate as many variables as I can. Fortunately, one kid is home from college to help Regina with keeping the home life stable. I'll get over to my storage today to look for those heat shields...

Don't kill yourself Jerry, if you have time - great. But don't sweat it. I threw it out there to see if anyone else has some on the ForSale thread - I know you have a full plate right now.
 
"while you're in there" only works if you have the time to do all of those extra things.

Don't forget the twin injectors per cylinder and double fuel rails...sooooo nice.
