just read that too also thinking it was a joke. looks like it took off part of his shoulder as well. WOW. had no idea they could do that. feel bad for the Dad for seeing it live and for the rest of the family

I think the blades are carbon.

Sad story...My prayers goes to the family.

I've seen a lot of heli and plane crashes, bad ones, but not to the extent that killed someone.

Once, i've flown over the runway, i did call out a low fast pass and a fellow pilot did not announce that he was crossing the field and to my surprise, he was on my path and so close and fast speed (80mph) I couldn't get out of it and hit him. Destroyed my F18 Super Hornet full thrust vectored jet. Thanks to AMA for the insurance. The other pilot was not injured badly, just bruise.

Although tragic, every rc enthusiast should take this as a lesson. I am a member of a flying club and rules are to fly only on your buddy box only. I get it, he was in a park, not a field.
That is why on most fields, heli's have their own spot and away from fixed wing pilots.

Yes the bladed are carbon fiber and tough to break unless you get into a hard crash. The tail boom and carbon as well.

Truely tragic, my thoughts goes to him and his family. :frown:

Read it the other day.
Tragic...and totally avoidable.

Why would anyone place large rotating blades, that close to their head? It's freaking stupid!!

There are dozens of stunts he could be doing with his RC chopper, that do not include literally risking life and limb.

I have a small one that couldn't do anymore than maybe take an eye out if you were hit in the face with it. It's one of the little starter kit type. I play with it with my granddaughter.
Even then, safety is PARAMOUNT!

I personally feel horrible for the father who both introduced the son to the hobby, and saw his demise:frown:

I hope other kids that play with these things take notice, and parents take heed. Maybe the hobby ought to police itself a bit better?
