I know were I can get all the TBI stuff off a wreck pretty cheap but will my stock 71 distrubtor with a Pertronix points eliminator be a clean enough signal for the Computer? Howell fuel injection said they can burn a new chip if I need it but I would need a clean tach signal. Has anyone used a Pertronix setup with TBI? If not would a later modle Toyota dist. be the way to go?

From what I have been told, the later Toyota distributor is the way to go, after getting rid of the advance mechanism, as it is already an electronic unit, and the signal that it creates will work fine with the GM TBI set ups...

I am currently gathering pieces to install the TBI set up on a customers rig, 1969 40- 2F engine.

Oh, and you will probably need/want a new chip, as those that I have spoke to who have done this conversion have said that the fuel requirements at specific RPM ranges of the inline six are different by a lot compared to the v6...

Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I think I will grab all the TBI parts now and set on them untill I have more $$ for a dist. and whatever else I need. If you run into any tricks or problems along the way please post if you don't mind. I know I'm fooling myself but would really like to do this over a weekend and be back on the road.

Unless you have a laptop, loaded with the program needed to decipher the GM info, and the ability to burn a new chip then you will not be &#039:DONE' in a weekend...

You may be able to get everything installed and 'running'....I do not know how well tho...

What year parts are you accumulating and from what vehicle?

Good luck!

It's an 87 (I think) Astro van. I was afraid it might get more involved that just bolting on parts. I wish someone would market a chip or computer setup for the F/2F but I guess it's not that simple. I have my carb running pretty well at 7000 were I live but, I know it runs lean when I take it down south and real rich were I like to play. Maybe I'll check out a book on fuel injection systems so I'll have more of a clue what it's all about.

For a computer, look at the Mega Squirt (not only DIY but also gives interesting Google search results!). An ex-cruiser friend put one in his TBI'd Samurai and it seem to work well. There's a discussion forum for support somewhere out on that there Internet thing.
