Hey everyboby this is JT (new member) trying to get some info on what t-case is best to use with 350 v8 in a fj60. I should have the engine and trans in a couple weeks. I can get a chevy 205 or 208, or is it better to just use original trany and t-case. Wanting to compile everything (info/parts) i need before tackling this project. I am shooting for like Jan to do this and have it done by end of feb. SOA start in march hopefully done by june or so. Anybody that would like to give me some insite it would be greatly acepted. Once again thanks and cant wait to hit the trails. I am gonna be at the X-mas tree runs 6th and 13th. hope to see ya'll there.

The big question is what rear axle are yo using.

The stock T-case will work perfectly fine behind a V-8 if you are using the stock offset axle.

If you are upgrading to a centered rear axle I would suggest a Dana 300. Super up-gradeable and shares dimensions with an Atlas if you decide to go that route in the future.

But, if you are using the stock axle, no need to do anything besides buy a transfer case adapter.

JT,

I am running 383 V8 with 700R4 to NP203 doubler to stock Toyota split transfer case. No problems with the stock Toyota transfer case or the stock Toyota rear axle. You can upgrade the axle shafts and birfields (in the front axle) to get the stock Toyota axles up to the level of stock D60 axles. I broke the stock Toyota birfields an now have Longfields and haven't broke them yet. "Yet" being the key word. If you use a transfer case with a centered rear output you will want to change your rear axle to a centered style as well.

When you do the SOA you will want to switch to a double cardan drive shaft. Early model FJ60's have them but later model FJ60's don't. The bolt pattern on the flanges of the transfer case and third member is different for the different style drive shafts as well. No big deal because you can either drill your flanges or buy ones that are pre drilled for both patterns.

I gonna keep the axles stock for now, and probally go with toyota t-case behind a t350 trans. Were is the best place to get the adapter for t-case to trans ? Hey chuck are you gonna be at any of the x-mas tree weekends? I would like to see your rig, or maybe meet up with ya one weeekend befrore just to see how you have everything laid out on your 60. thanks for the info.

84 FJ60 (350 SOA ) ON THE WAY!!!!!

thnaks for the info Mark, i also heard of a place called novak adapters or something like that. hey question for ya, in your opinion what would be better engine gm 4.3 , gm 350?

GM 350+

We loose too much hp being at the elevations we are at!

Don't bother with a V-6 in a heavy wagon. I would go with a 350 at the minumum. Talk to Chuck (PPFJ60) about motors. He had a 383 stroker built locally for a good price.

Do you already have a motor? Also, check your other post I replied to. Consider the TH700R4 instead of the TH350.

JT,

I will around (Divide) this weekend but I will be gone Thanksgiving weekend and the following weekend is the start of the Christmas Tree cutting.

If you wanted to come up Saturday afternoon we could run over to Rainbow Falls so you can see SOA and lockers in action.

Luke may want join us if he is around.

Anyone else want to hit Rainbow Falls Saturday?

Chuck - cell 719-649-9180.

Would love to I will give ya a call saturday, what time good for you? So survey says 350 is the winner. Thanks for the info. and right behind it 700R4!!!!!

I beg you not to waste your money on a 4.3......I have one and I hate the damn thing. It does O.K. on the street, and is not bad for slow rockcrawling, but it just doesn't cut it for high horsepower snow bashing, or pulling anything except itself.

I do highly recommend the 700r4 as well, I run this tranny and love it. But, In my experience, don't put any kind of shift kit in it, makes them shift too damn hard and aggravating to drive daily, and it will spin you around in the snow when it hits second gear hard. (go ahead, ask me how I know) :) 700r4's are much better left stock.

OK I will, ask how do you know it will turn you around in the snow?:hhmm:
As for the other things it will be 350 and 700r4,

I traded out some electrical work to a guy who owned a transmission shop, and he built my transmission in return. I think he thought he was doing me a favor by installing all the trick street goodies and making my tranny shift like an outlaw 10 dragster.

It doesn't have to be snow actually, once a guy got me a little irate in traffic and I tried to pass around him at an intersection, I was so hard on the gas I almost lost control in the grass when the 2nd gear kicked in. :D lesson learned. I have since pulled the corvette servo out and that helped a little, but need to change the line pressure spring too. While full lockup 4500 RPM shifts are fun for barking the 35's on the concrete, they kinda suck on loose surfaces, lol

I have an '85 FJ60 that is stock except for a 350 that has a Marks adapter to a stock 4 speed to let you see what the after will be. It puts a smile on my face when you stab the gas. The smile stays there until you stop to refill the gas tank.
