Hi again everyone,
Talk me into spending the extra $30 grand for the LC 200 please!

You know the old expression you are not my accountant? We have all heard this but throw out some opinions if you would please anyway.

I’m waiting for the dealer to get me my LC 200 and full disclosure I am at about $78,900 after beating them up. They will not move.

So as I said in my earlier post I am trading my BMX X5 Diesel as we need more room but we could make it work if we had too. Truthfully I am not crazy about the bimmer. It’s just ok and I don’t smile when I look at it in the garage. I really don’t want to buy the Sequoya; it just doesn’t call out to me. I still stand by my lack of confidence of our Tahoe’s, Yukons, navigators, etc. I am as red blooded American as they come but most will agree, it’s just not the same build quality and longevity and value as the LC.

I want to buy a keeper. I want to own it for 250k miles and for the next 10 years. But man, I am now having a hard time justifying the price. To be clear I could pull it off but am now thinking going all in or just getting another mid-size normal SUV like the MDX, Pilot, etc for $45k

I have run the numbers and it boils down to about $600 more per month for an LC than an MDX or similar. That’s the rub really, do I want to pay the extra $600 and own an LC or not.

Did anyone else justify the price any other way creative way or just said screw it I want it and I am going to pay to play as they say?

Again thanks for sharing some thoughts.

We have a new MDX and a LC. Both are nice. And the MDX drives fairly sporty and rides better. That being said, the MDX doesn't have the fit and finish of the 200 LC. If I was doing a lot of highway miles I would get the MDX. If I had to pay finance of $600 more a month I'd also get the MDX. Are you ok with finance plus15/18 mpg in a 200 vs 20/27 plus higher insurance ? MDXs have gone past and to the 200k mile mark as well. Engine is very proven. My 2 cents. Good luck

Acura in general are very reliable. I would never buy an LC as a DD. Honestly, I don't find the seats all that comfortable, prefer my Mercedes active massage sport seats as a much better option for DD and the suspension won't tire you out on the long drives. I bought my LC for winter and anytime we are doing anything in the outdoors. The most comfortable SUV hands down was when I test drove the '13 Ranger Rover SC when it was first released and may still buy one at some point for the long haul road trips but won't give up my LC. I'm over having cars here Colorado with all the dang potholes. Soon will be an SUV only family.

I just went through the same argument with my wife, LC vs MDX (her choice). You cannot ration $30K extra for a LC over MDX for any practical purposes.
That being said, we are both in love with our new 16 LC. LC is very similar to 911, you have to own one if you are car nut. Just be honest, LC is a "want" thing, not a "need" thing.

correct. you have to be nuts to get one. that makes two of us here :bounce::bounce2:

Ok, I bought a new '16. I went from a flashy euro sports car and a chevy tahoe to a '16 LC, and I'm pretty damn happy.

Three reasons: 1) it will last, and 2) it will be reliable, and 3) it makes sense economically.

Everyone talks about buying these things used, and I get that. But I don't want someone else's car, or someone else's potential problem (every line of vehicles has a few and they are guaranteed to be among the vehicles for sale). I am willing to pay a little extra, because the way I see it you're buying an LC for 20 years or so. Amortize the extra 20-30k over 20 years, and you soon realize that the LC is actually one of the cheapest reliable cars you can buy. Figure it's 90k all in (it's a little more depending on the state, but the idea...) and you're paying 4.5k a year for a reliable vehicle that will take you anywhere, won't kill your wallet with repairs, and which you can pretty much do anything you want to in. If you buy used, you're likely paying between 2.5-3.5k a year for the same car, and for all the talk of used / new that's what we're really talking about (plus you have to understand you're losing 1-2 years of ownership that's already in the car on a new / used if you formulate it — it's not great but it's not this massive drama like everyone makes it). That math only works if you keep the car forever, but that is the *point of the vehicle* in my opinion.

I like it say it's a family crawler, not a family hauler. As is, this thing is perfect for getting in the back country. We have a Honda Pilot, and it's awd and gets down the road. When we take it fishing up in the mountains, I'd say I'm doing an average of 8 MPH on the boulder strewn roads. This LC will blow through those roads at 40MPH and barely shake doing it. Another example... you know those huge speed humps they have in residential areas for 15MPH? This truck will take them at 40 with a little bounce. I have a water filter, three fly fishing poles, a camp stove, and a bunch of other fun stuff (most of which fits in the freekin' lid on the drop hatch or in the pockets of the covers on the rear seats, so it's nicely stowed) and can basically just drive off the road into the woods for fun times, which we regularly do. There just isn't anything else except a large American truck that can do what this thing does, and they're not considerably cheaper, and they're certainly not as reliable.

OK, so sure, it's a lot of money. But there *isn't* another car in the NA market that holds up or has the capabilities of the LC that is ALSO reliable over the long term AND has the quality, comfort and reliability.

Will admit that I dislike the hood design on the '16 though. Heavy rain water gets stuck in the center trough and it throws a lot of water on the windshield when driving. I wish they'd stuck with the classic design instead of making it look like a big 4runner. It also lacks little things like having enough usb ports, and the phone cubby is just plain silly. Those are my biggest complaints though. At least it still has a headphone jack. ;)

Re: USB ports... I assume you mean for charging? If so, this is a GREAT one, with full power (2.4A on each port...which is the same as the newer, higher power iPad chargers) on all four ports for a total of 9.6 amps. Super reliable, and solid:

It's great to be able to have two iPads and two phones charging all at once, and all at high speed.

Beyond that...I have an additional ZILLION ports in back because of work needs, but that one from Anker is excellent.

We just did 3700 miles in the 200 from Chicago to Yellowstone and back, pulling our 24' trailer at 70-75. In my '08 MDX I used to find my back and legs ached after a couple hours of driving. We did 22 hours on the way back (15 on day one, 7 on day two) with stops only for gas and to me the seats were awesome. I haven't owned a Merc so they could me leaps and bounds over the LC, but honestly I was very pleased with the comfort.

The lack of usb ports is annoying but obviously can be solved with adding dual 2.1A aftermarket ones here. As for the hood design, it grew on me as I didn't like it at the beginning but after I drove GL 450 I realized the LC hood was more functional in terms of eyeing distance between the edge of the car and other objects. Finally, the longevity aspect is a win/win and LC 16 could outlive most of us here middle age drivers :)

In a year or so I will be looking at considering the addition of front bumper, lift, tires, roof tent and may be harrop lockers if necessary but I will definitely ping the wise men of 8mud for recommendations when the time comes especially @paflytyer

Thanks for the chat. You definitely got me thinking about a 200 :)

the pleasure was mine. Right now I am learning and in a year or so considering the following upgrades for my LC16 after seeing few LC100/200 trucks shattering mountains with this setup :steer:

White ARB Bumper for 2016 LC
Ironman Cellfoam pro kit with Toyota coil spacers in the front (not sure if there is a place to buy in WA)
285-70 R18's BFG's
Anza, 18x9 with 5 on 150 Bolt Pattern - Gun Metal Matte
WARN 8K Winch
Possibly Dual Battery
ARB Side Rails (gotta protect those curves)
Slee Step Sliders

This should be enough to get me killed - LOL

If I bring home a 200 it will be my wife doing the killing....

My mantra: [sell more parts, sell more parts, etc......] :)
