Taking apart the third seats seems an impossible task. (1 Viewer)

My third seats were in very poor mechanical shape (bent parts, missing parts, etc.). I decided to fix it and for that I purchased used seats from ebay. Got the seats but they are a different tone, so I figured I would change just the mechanical parts of one seat and place them in mine. Well, turns out is an impossible task. I first unscrewed the plastic cap covering the mechanical part, that was somewhat easy (had to pull hard on the shock it has but made it). Then unscrewed the arm that connects it to the two clamps that lock the seat to the floor. Then there is this "ball and joint" connecting the shock to the seat I just could not take off. However that is not the sad part, the sad part was realizing that once I undo that, there aren´t any other screws or pieces to be removed to be able to change the whole mechanisms underneath. Has anyone tried this task and succeeded?

This one here is the seat that is in, more or less, working order.

This next one is a picture of both seats side by side. Here you can notice that the left seat on the third row is all worn out due to several missing parts causing friction and shear.

This is the problem. The little hard wire that acts like a lever on the larger one, was missing. I therefore manufactured one with a nail (hell of a job but got it). Once I installed it, I realized the whole arm is bent, so when the lever is actioned, the mechanism digs into the seat tearing the opholstery (here covered with ductape to avoid further damage). If you see, the it should be straight and it is bent. Tried to straighten it but could not make it.

Therefore I tried to detach it and change it for the spare one I have now that I purchased a whole new seat, but like I wrote before, it is nearly impossible, or I have not found how to do it. Here is the infamous "ball and joint" I cant get dettached.

This is the only screw visible that I was able to remove but it does really nothing, just connects the upper mechanism with the lower.
(For some reason I cannot upload the picture, but it is visible through the hole on the plastic part).

And the picture of the screws that just hold the plastic cap.

Wow, I've never seen worn 3rd row seats on a 100 (or an 80), for that matter, the mechanism must have been broken for a very long time to cause that wear! Good luck with the switch!

Great job on a tough task.

Your town may not have a ton of LCs, but finding someones unwanted seats in their garage attic may be a better path.

The challenge is finding them in gray, I think way more than 60% of 100s in the US came with beige interior. Heck, if you want a set of beige third row seats, DM me, I have a set that's never been used that you can have for cheap. I'm the second owner, the first owner never used them and I've never opened them either.

When I looked into something similar a long time ago. I realized it was easier to change the leather than it is to take apart the frame…. While the seats are somewhat hard to find in this color, they do pop up frequently enough.

I think you need to unscrew the bottom of the ball mount for the shock. The shock head and ball mount are meant to stay connceted:

Did you ever figure this out? I need to unbolt the strap that holds the seat in its upright position mine was ripped so want to add a new strap. I cannot find anyway to get that plastic cover off.
