Interesting how ideas repeat themselves. There were several threads on the LCML about 10 years ago about electric Land Cruiser approaches - motor in each wheel, hybrid, etc. I believe Rob Mullen was among those participating in those threads. He has since gone on to help design hybrid electric city buses.

Most recently Jim Van De Ven (the guy with the home-made rear steer 40 that was featured in Toyota Trails several years ago) was asking about what manual tranny/t-case would be suggested to use to build a diesel-hybrid hydraulic 80. I think the consensus for his application was the H150 or H151, which were used behind 1HZs and 1HD-Ts.
