I need help on what to use and where to get a good tailgate latch for the offroad trailer I'm throwing together. I bought these little thingys but I dont think I will like them. I see some cool hinge/cam type latches on some builds here, but cant find em anywhere.....:frown:

Those might work as retractable hinges.

I think I can make them work but I will have to build stand-offs to allow the pin handle to rotate and clear the tailgate.
Much prefer to find some of these.

Draw latches

Look at McMaster Carr's catalog they have draw latches and toggle clamps for any application. I used a pair of draw latches on my 40 windshield because PO had cut out all hardware. I'm sure they have what you are looking for and then some. McMaster Carr is a must have resource for anyone who fabricates.
Find it here...McMaster-Carr

Have a look at older Asian mini truck tail gates ("LUV" trucks come to mind). Some, but not all had latches like that. They're lighter duty, but some of the UTV's with a bed also have latches like that. Finally, have a look at the FJ40 tailgate latches, they're different than what is shown above, but they'll work the same way.
