I've searched the forum, internet, asked the dealership and even placed a call to Cruiser Dan at American Toyota with no clear answer. Will 2006-2007 tail lights (both the lights on the body and the rear tail gate, total of 4 across the back) work in a 1998-2002 cruiser. It appears that the body dimensions are the same but I don't know if the mounting holes will match up and if they will plug into the wiring harness where the existing tail lights plug in. I am referring to 06-07 OEM tail lights, not replicas or generic lights you can buy off the internet. Everyone I've asked says "they might" or "they should." Has anyone done this swap?

I was looking into this too, for a while. It became so cost prohibitive that even if the LED assemblies would fit, I didn't want to shell out the coin for them. I'm just going to retro some Whelen Vertex LED's into the housing for the signals and reverse lamps, and leave the brake/tail lights incandescent I think. Relatively simple and very bright.
For your actual question, I don't have a good answer...but be prepared for sticker shock if you haven't gotten prices yet. I think that's what turns most folks away from the OEM swap.

Why not just install led bulbs?
What he said...I have a 5W CREE reverse light that will knock your socks off. Just make sure you purchase load resistors if you decide to do the turn signals.

You have Whelen LED lights for turn and brake? If so, how much did they cost?
The vertexs I have are not so much for turn and brake, more like...stay-away-from-me-lights. I have LEDs for my front signals, and auxiliary rear brake/turn lights. They're in my I <3 LEDs thread.

I have done this swap on my 2000 LC, i installed the 06-07 oem tail lights. You just need the wiring harness from 07 and the lights are same. You need the harness because the bulbs and sockets are different. I got the harness and tail lighgs from dealer, but remember the prices though.
Also, i have installed the 07 headlights, grill and bumpers, land cruiser nameplate and spoiler.

One more thing, you only need the harness for outer( the one on the quater panel) tail lights(

When I talked to Cruiser Dan, he said I would probably need the wiring harness but didn't mention whether I would need one for both. Are just the outer lights LEDs or are the inner lights LEDs as well?
You only need two harnesses, 1 for right side and 1 for left side. The inner(door/trunk) lights dont need the harness becasue they use use the same plug/harness. Make sure you get it for 06-07.
Are you upgrading the headlights also? I have also upgraded the headlights, bumper, fog lights, grill, spoiler, LC nameplate. If you need help with them, let me know.
