Looking to replace my 2000 Tacoma's headlight bulbs. I did a bit of research on the Sylvania Ultra series but they have mixed reviews regarding longevity. Any suggestions?

I get sylvania or the powerbulbs brand from powerbulbs.com had good luck with them and good white color. And something i have also is the ipf headlight harness. It seems to also help with longevity. More consistent power to the bulbs.

**edit... Oops, read to fast and didn't notice that this is for a 2000 Taco... What bulb type is that?

Another Mud member and resident light expert recommended these (Cary). I had the JohnDeer HIR bulbs in my 80 series and wondered if there was something equivalent and this was his choice.

What you want are the Osram Hyper bulbs in 65/70w or 80/85w, both should work fine with your wiring system and the 80/85w will basically double your stock bulb output. They are not an HIR, but use a newer more efficient design than the tradition H4 design resulting in the same output as the old 100/130 bulbs. They are about $20 each.

Just had my first bulb burn out and picked up a replacement (lasted 3 years). I have the 80/85w and have never had anyone flash me, the Taco headlight has a really clean cutoff across the top of the beam. They are soooo much better than the oem bulbs that came with the Taco, full bright white light, no dark spots, and a clean cutoff.

The guys at Susquehanna Motorsports are awesome too, highly recommend buying from them.

I have the Piaa Night Tech bulbs in my 4runner, they are a great replacement that will work fine with the stock wiring.

Keep in mind, if you go to a higher wattage bulb you will definitely have to run a relayed harness or you risk burning up the stock wiring.

Thanks for the input. I don't want to run a "hot" bulb and risk burning up my wiring. Will check out the site Powerbulbs. Note, I also am going to replace my old, hazy lenses.

I have been using the Sylvania Silverstars for years. I got babied with them in my WRX and have had to have them ever since. They do burn out after a while but just keep an extra in the glovebox.

Finally got the time to replace my old, hazy yellow lenses and ordered up some Phillips bulbs at powerbulbs. looks like new again and a much brighter, cleat white light.
