I've just bought an SM465 Tranny for my '72 V8 conversion, and I wanted some advice on my t-case course of action.

My options are: Adapt my stock T-case, upgrade the parking brake with a MAF kit, and twin-stick it with an AA kit.

OR:
Buy an NP205, and twin stick it.

I've heard that the gearing on either case isn't really great, but I'm not a rock-crawler, I'm more interested in setting up my rig for road and trail use to reach trailheads for hiking, backpacking, hunting, etc. So, which would you folks recommend?

As far as upgrading the parking brake, In my experience, the MAF disk parking break is no upgrade over the stock drum PB. I had nothing but trouble with it. Big waste of money IMO. When the stock drum PB is is good working order, and the transfer isn't leaking, it works great.

What size tires will you be running? For general trail riding, I think you'd be more than happy with your stock 3 speed transfer case.

Stick with the stock transfer case, go through it and the parking brake and it should serve you well for a long time.

A 205 has a centered rear output, so you would want to change your rear axle to a centered differential as well if you plan on operating the short wheel base 40 series on the road.

Thanks, That's just what I needed to know. I'm pretty stoked about the 465, I've got some other shtuff planned for it before I install, so it may be some time.

Yep, and Poser left out Drive Shaft Flange issues, parking brake cable issues, and brake line issues if you swap the rear-end for a centered diff.
