Any one else have this problem, can it be as simple as a new cable. It will work randomly then stop, then jump, then stop. I searched for a thread pertaining to this problem but didn't locate, if anyone can steer me in the right direction I would be stoked. The pickup has the 3.4, manual trans and is 4WD. Thanks in advance.

It is not as easy as a new cable since it is electronic. I would guess it is a loose wire since it works sporadically but it could be the tach is going out aswell.

Is everything else working properly?

Broken Tach

Everything else is in working order, on the dash anyways.
Thanks for the reply and the steel wheels:D small world Mike.

Electronic tach that sounds like a pain. I'll have to pull the cluster out and see if there is anything loose and follow the wires from there. Thanks

I thought that might be you. I will look for the lugs and let you know. Also if you can hook up a test tach to see if it is reading it it would narrow it down to the tach itself. I can help you out with that if you need. Just let me know.

Mine did that about a year an a half ago. Would just stop working, then bounce up every so often and such. I beat on the dash a few times and it would work, then it just started working and has been fine since. I never took the cluster out to see what the problem was, could have been a wire, or maybe something on the curcuit board on the back of the cluster.

I found other references on the internet at the time, no real solutions or causes that I found.
