Value all the opinions i can get...
how would switching differential ratios from 4.11 to 4.56 affect the drive of my truck in case i want to leave everything else on my truck as it is:

I have a stock 2F engine, 33 inch tires and a 4 speed tranny.

thanks

RE-gearing is spendy and there is not a big difference between 4.11 and 4.56, most cruisers are pretty happy with 4.11's and 33's. If you ever plan on bigger than 33's go with 4.88's, same price.

Stock tires were 28", you've installed 33" which are 17.85% larger. If you install 4.56 gears you will be buying back 11.21% of your 17.85% loss. If you install 4.88 gears you will be buying back 19.02% of your loss (almost a perfect buy-back, only 1.17% off). Your call Kimosabi!!!

Depends on where you drive it too. Will this be a daily driver / freeway rig? Or will it see a lot of it's time offroad or climbing hills.

If you are just going to pound pavement and don't live in a place with tons of hills your 4.11s/33 combo should be fine. Spend money on something else.

Make sense?

Hi All:

I'm with "Bull" on this one!

A buddy of ours has 4.88 gears in his FJ40 running a 2F and 35X12.5R15 radials and he hates it on the highway! The engine "screams" at 60 mph.

I have been running 33X12.5R15 radials on a '40 with a 2F and 4.11s for close to ten years without any complaints. For gearing off-road I have an H41 transmission.

Regards,

Alan
