SW Colorado this summer... July or August

Hitting up SW Colorado either 4th of July week or the week before Labor Day. I know that Rising Sun will be down there Memorial Wknd, anyone have suggestions of where I should put reservations in? Planning on camping out since the gas bill is going to put me out of staying in hotels.


Also.... anyone wanna go? Should be some great wheeling! We're going to spend a week there, hit up Imogene, Black Bear, Engineer, and maybe Crystal or Holy Cross on the way there or back.

Silverton would put you in a good locale for the trails you mentioned. Red Mountain Campground in town has cabins and facilities. South Mineral Creek USFS campground 2.5 miles N. out of town on US550 has pit johns but does not take reservations. Good fishing on Mineral Creek and at Clear Lake nearby.

Alta Lakes between Telluride and Ophir is nice for when you get down from Black Bear. No facilities that I'm aware of, but beautiful campsites on the lakes.
