Folks,

I have an '87 FJ60 that is overdue for a suspension overhaul. My vehicle is primarily used on road, mostly winter driving (Northern Virginia).

My current front & rear springs are flat - approximately 1 1/2" of gap between the bump stop and the front axel... I have an ARB bull bar up front (non-winch). Other than that - stock suspension load. I have a heavy duty rear trailer hitch but I don't tow anything on a regular basis.

I have searched/reviewed suspension threads and have narrowed in on OME and Smokey Mountain Suspension (SMS) kits.

Looking for recommendations between the two kits. Also if recommending OME, appreciate recommendations on where to buy the kit.

I know I need new drop links for my front sway bar (the old ones are shot. Will a 2-3" lift also require new brake lines?

I will also be replacing tie rod ends when I do the job - my steering is getting rather crappy.

Only plan to own the vehicle for another 3 years, just looking to keep my Cruiser cruizin' safe and comfortably.

Thanks for the input,

Gordo

I know nothing of the SMS kits, but am happy with the OME Dakar set-up I have. If you go OME, I would suggest Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters for the source. I have extended sway bar links, but stock brake hoses, no issues with that. If you search around a bit (try Dakar and my username....), you'll find a ton of threads on OME, and learn a couple of things to watch out for during the install.

Agree with RockDoc OME provides extremely nice ride on street. If you are not planning on flexing the suspension to much I would not worry about the extended brake lines. However at full droop mine are stretched to the max and will be replacing ASAP and will eventually replace the links on the swaybar as well.
