Supplemental backup light Q

I read multiple reviews about em on amazon that said that the cheap wiring catches fire. Wire connections are weak, they said. check connections and insulation when you get em. Don't need to see a land cruiser fire... I like the idea of this a lot. The pfran reverse lights do a great job of spotlighting behind my truck, but the area directly behind me is dark. These would help lots, I reckon.

B3ast! Your install has my OCD going crazy. I know the hitch isn't symmetrical with the exhaust exit, but why the heck didn't your LED strips get mounted symmetrically?? >.<

Wire is thin, black jacket over the wires is rated at 80C...I did not notice any reviews on Amazon, but I haven't yet mounted the strips so worst case, I'm out 10 bucks or so.

If they're mounted symmetrically to the receiver opening , there are bends on the hitch tubing that might cause them, imo, to lift one end or the other off the hitch tubing. I planned on fixing that with some thin black cable ties, one on each light about 1/2" in from each end.

ETA...I just read a few reviews on Amazon noting relatively high heat when turned on for a while, el cheapo foam mounting tape, and "flimsy wire". That said, my plan is to remove the foam tape and use 3M mounting tape, as thin as I can find and use cable ties on each end as I noted earlier. These will be reverse lights, they will not be used for camp lighting the pinocle table for 6 hours after dinner.

The wire looks to be ~24 to 26 awg. It is not strain-relieved to the LED body itself. Plan is to recover a piece of 4:1 adhesive-lined heat shrink over a the body about 1/2" and let it cool, then use a horse syringe (very handy garage tool available at your local tack store) and backfill an inch or of tubing with RTV...then shrink that and let the goop cure over night. Obviously, any wiring underneath the truck needs to be tied to structure or eventually vibration will wipe it out.
