Beanland, I have their CD, the guitar player was my friend from High School.

Keyboarder went to the Panic right? JJ?

Yeah, JoJo Hermann, played keyboards for Beanland before leaving for WSP. Interesting guy, actually didn't ride in the dark U-Haul, drove his own car everywhere. Had a somewhat wider agenda during the band's off-time. Not a snob about it, just had some different interests. I talked to him on the Panic bus a couple of years ago though and he sheepishly admitted to enjoying the relatively posh surroundings of the WSP road show. Nice guy, real quiet. He'd show up at lunch on the day of a show, wait in line with everyone else and attempt sincerely to pay. Then generally sit at a table drinking coffee well into the afternoon.

George McConnell played lead guitar for Beanland and is now playing (the very same) guitar for Panic, picked up after Michael Houser died. George is one of the sweetest people you'd ever meet, quick with a smile and all about yes ma'am and yes sir, even with a joint in one hand and a guitar in the other. Beanland was ripping good long before the sub-Dead jam band scene took off and George was at the center of it all.

We had a pretty regular deal with them for a while, they'd hit Shenanigans on Thursday night in advance of playing Nashville or Chattanooga on Friday night. They played for the door and packed the house every time. One of the few bands we had who didn't run off our locals. In fact you could usually find George and Bill at the bar during set breaks talking guitar with the local bluegrass contingent. If they had time we'd go fishing together either before the show or the next day. George wasn't much with a reel but he always had that big grin on his face, like he knew something you didn't (which he probably did). We took good care of them, set them up with dinner and lunch for the road the next day. Found them a place to stay that was clean and free. In turn they played long and hard and put up with some seriously weird idiosyncrasies at Shenanigans. (For example, the stage was split in two to allow access to the restrooms and keg cooler. Nothing like ripping through Doretha while people walk through the stage. They'd also let this guy who worked for us do his one rap song every now and again during their set. It was awful but they got a big kick out of it.)

Anyway, yeah, those guys. Nice little connection there, Nolen.

What were we talking about, Land Cruisers...?

Now, between you and Dearborn we can set up an tlca associate member cage match.

Bring it on. I can yell at Mark loud enough to make him cry.
