Oh what a feelin'!!! :D I have never experienced traction....until now. I installed the rear. Waiting to do the front until I get a knuckle rebuild kit. Hopefully later this summer.
There is a hill climb at my buddy's house that has gaping holes offset enough to where with an open diff, you have to get a running start to carry you thru and make it to the top. I mean a good 8-10mph. Not alot of fun at that speed, but the 60 has made it plenty of times. On my test run with the lock, my first attempt was 2low of course, just had to see :). I nearly idled all the way up this climb. The hill gets a little steeper at the top and it is dryer up there, so both rears were just diggin' and momentum seased. Backed down, locked front hubs, idled all the way to the top. :D
I'm hooked all over again! It's Alive!!! I can definetly see myself getting into trouble now.
This is just a quick testimony from someone who has always been open diff. And to anyone considering getting off the highway at all, I can't recommend it enough. Aussie or not, get a lock.

Thanks for listening,
Andy

Sweet! Putting the raffle winnings to use?

You guessed it! Ordered a pair of 'em within two weeks of getting home from GSMTR.

Did you figure out where to mount your tank yet?

I knew I could count on you for a kick in the ass to get'r done. :) I'm shoppin' for a kit to do the front rebuild. Like to have it here by end next week.

What's your thoughts/recommendations on diff gaskets? OEM or RTV?
My original gasket nearly came off in one piece. Almost neal was left behind for me to scrape and clean. Lucky? RTV seems to work fine. Is it just a pain to get off vs a paper gasket?

Side note...who all's goin' to tellico Aug. 10-12? I bet Roger will be there. :grinpimp:

Speaking of knuckle rebuild kits....do I need new wiper blades? Are these necessary to replace?

They normally come with the kit so it is a good itea to replace thethm, the old ones are usually full of grease and dirt so it is easier to assemble the knuckle with new ones.

I saw kits that had the blades listed and some did not. I'll be sure to get them. Thanks Roger.

yeah, might as well do everything while you have that greasy mess apart. probably the nastiest job i've ever done...but my axle seals were so bad there was only gear lube left in the knuckles!

good job Andy on the locker!:beer:see ya soon.

Thanks Sean. I have a feeling I'm going to see the same. My DS hub is covered with oil.
The PS hub is clean, which probably means it's dried up. But both knuckles are caked with grease and grime. Well overdue.

Ask a favor of ya.....think I could borrow your emission FSM to make a copy?

Andy

Heh. HehHeh......he said boner. Heh. HehHeh. :D

Spanks!

Well Done sir! Now get the front in you lazy bastard:D:shotts:

Well I finally did the front this past weekend. Princess and the Prince went to the beach so I had the weekend to get something done. First time pulling a third for me. Wasn't bad. Had a hand pulling it out. Got a good feel for the weight. Reinstalled third by myself and floor jack. Job can definitley be done by one's self if your careful. It took me both days to complete. One day was nothing but cleaning...that took up most of the time. If there wasn't such a mess from the knuckles, it can easily be done in one day.

Can't try it out yet.....still waiting on my carb from Jim.

Sweet, let us know how you like the Aussie in the front. It will be a looong time before I could put an ARB up front, not so long for an auto.

You going to GSMTR this year? I'm bringing my son, it will be his first camping/wheeling trip (wish me luck).

I hear you on the ARB.....I might have grand kids before I can afford an ARB locker.

I still need to do the 2-lo mod.

I will be at GSMTR. I'm hoping for a Wed. arrival. It's hard to believe it's already here.

Good luck! But that's exciting your boy is getting old enough to tag along. I can't wait for my little man to Cruise with me.

Glad to hear you are coming to GSMTR, I have Cameron's registration but have not seen your's.
