looking at the subwoofer schematic, it shows a feed through the switch labeled AMP.
does anyone know what this is actually doing?
is it just sending a turn on signal to the amplifier?
is it a signal to the deck or what?
if so, why use two accesorie turn ons.

i wouldnt normally ask this but the FJ manual online is incomplete and this section is ommited.
thanks

amp wire.

I suspect that you have 2 accessory turn on's as you want to have power to turn on the deck unit as soon as the car is turned on to acc or started. The subwoofer amp is turned on only when you play music so this wire should turn on the amp. The amp does not need to be drawing power and turned on if the deck is not being used.

i was thinking that same thing, so that is why i brought the question.
is the amp wire a source or is it a ground provided by the deck, to complete the accesory circuit turning on the amp.

amp wire

From what I recall the amp wire is a 12v source not a ground. The easiest way to check this would be to use a multimeter. I had hooked up an amp in my fj40 to use with my ipod and no deck as the deck got stolen while in South America and I believe I just hooked the ampwire form the amp to a 12v power source (only hot when the car was turned on) with a switch in between so that I could turn on the amp when I wanted to play the ipod and it would not stay on while the car was off or if i turned the switch off. I believe I out a 5 ar 3 amp fuse in the line. But that makes me think I don't like the the fact of a hot amp wire hanging out the back of the cdplayer that could touch the frame. Maybe it has a really low amp fuse in it. I would be curious if yours has a fuse in the line and how many amps

from what i have found out, it is a switched 12v even with the deck off.
threre are no bare wires back there or anything, its in the sub woofer switch and subwoofer plug...

i cant really see much reason to have two accesory sources back there, but knowing the wiring scematic of the subwoofer assembly itself could shed some light.

either way i am going to continue the project as planned and skip that wire as i dont find it necessary for me at this time.

i will be sure to update with any relevant info to this thread.

alright, i got my sub hooked up in the fj, just have it temped in for right now.
i used a signal adapter to go from the available speaker signal to an rca signal to the amp.
i used the ground in that loop for the signal converter, grounded the amp to the chassis, and used the factory ACC and 12v to run the amp.
i havent looked at my wiring manual to double check the amperage rating of the 12v feed wire, however toyota advertized the 200 watts to their sub and control it with a 20amp fuse so i should be fine., it appears to be powering my 200 wat amp with no issues.
once i get a new sub, box built and everything cleaned up i can post some pics.

i believe it is used as a remote only turn on for the amp. an aftermarket amp has the main pos. nad neg. cables, them a remote on that triggers a relay for main power
