All music in my '04 100TLC sounds like ****. suspect subwoofer is blown. Called local Best Buy to ask about installing replacement and was told the factory unit is a 6.5" speaker and all they stock is 8" and 10" subwoofers.
Anyone replaced factory with new subwoofer? Did you have to stick with the 6.5 or can larger unit work? Any advice on brands/models to avoid or recommendations on what's worked well?

BTW -- I'm in my 40's and don't exactly blast gangster rap as loud as it can go anymore. Surprised I've 'blown' a speaker.

I look forward to some answers on this! I have no idea about our LC subwoofer, but my 05' 4runner had an 8" sub that you could easily replace w/ aftermarket and get some great sounding bass, although even the stock speaker sounded good.
I would think one could retro-fit an 8" in there somehow, but it might also require replacing the factory amp with more output. The good news is adding an amp for just the sub would allow the other speakers to run off the oem amp (assuming there is one?) which makes for some great souding tunes!

The foam surround has separated from the speaker cone. Just use some silicone RTV and run a bead around the part that's separated and re-install. Wait about 3-4 hours and you're good to go.

BTW. I just had to do this in our 2004 on Sat. I did the door speakers back in Jan. Works great!

Bamachem --- took me a couple weeks to get a free afternoon to do this, but removed speaker and repaired per your instructions this weekend. I was prepared to spend big $$$ on this but a $3 tube of silicone and all sounds great. Thanks for advice!

Thanks again!

I was really surprised to see that the Nakamichi system in the LXs sounds pretty surprisingly bad, especially using the LS400 Nakamichi as a measuring stick, which is one of the best stock systems I've ever heard.

Then I was even more surprised when I saw on ToyoDIY that for whatever reason, all of the Nakamichi parts cost *less* than the non-Nakamichi system and whatever is in the LC for 2000. I guess that also helps explain why almost every LX from that era I've seen has the Nak in it. In fact, I don't think I've seen one without.

If I end up keeping this truck, my plan is to re-purpose an 8 inch Polk DXi Subwoofer and 100w Kicker 2ohm amp I kept from my last car (the amp has speaker level turn on) and just splice into the rear subwoofer speaker lead. More than anything, the system just lacks any real usable bass. I'm sure it would be improved dramatically with some solid low end.
