Anyone running a subcompact crank/chainrings on their road bike? How did you do it?
I have a Trek Domane SL7 Disc and going to order the Absolute Black 46/30 kit for the Shimano FC-R8000.
The issue I see is proper location/adjustment of the FD.

glad you got it figured out. Easy enough as dropping the F der placement on the 'braze-on'? assuming this bike doesn't have a round tubed seattube.

Mid-compact is def the sweetspot for 2x. Any desire to change your rear cassette size yet? You'll be on a mega-wide 1x soon enough ;)

the front D does not drop low enough for proper fitment, but overall shifting is good. I thought about making a new hanger bracket but it is riveted on and not removable 😥
I thought about 1x but don't want to replace the RD and for a road bike I like closer gearing of 2x. rear cassette is 11-34 so plenty low but enough top end too.

Ah yes, a cross big ring on a road bike. If your shifting it decent, run it. You’re just opening yourself (literally ) up to greater space for chain drop (to bb) and not pushing the chain up to the big ring at the expected/clocked ramp spot on the derailleur. An aftermarket chain catcher/stopper(k edge or similar) can be run with a front derailleur so you’re not having to sacrifice cable tension/limit position to retain the chain under drop situation

have not had any chain drops. downshift is great, it just does not ramp up as smooth as oe shimano. but, I love the low gearing...
