I'm working on a friend's subaru that is having what seems like a torque converter issue. When it is put in gear the engine dies and barely moves forward. After it is warmed up it seems to work ok and will go into gear smoothly. He use to rev it up and throw it in gear so that it wouldn't die, so I hope that him doing that hasn't caused it even more damage. Is there any way to figure out if it is the TC before pulling it apart?
