stupid 4-speed tranny question

My truck is an 87 FJ60 with the laster 4-speed tranny (spacer, longer output shaft).

I've got an earlier 4-speed tranny in the basement.

If I need to replace my tranny, can I take the spacer/output shaft off it and put them on the spare? Or is it too much work for a boat anchor?

Wife wants room in the basement.

I would think you'd be able to switch that out pretty easily, but I've never monkied with mine, so I can't do a hard-sell here...isn't the spacer built into the flange on the output shaft?

Next time the wife brings it up, do that red-neck lunge thing at her, like you're trying to start a fight...tell her "you want some of this? If you do, here it is, bring it..." If you look silly enough, she'll give up and leave the room.

sorry to ressurrect. How do I tell the difference between the new and old 4-speed? I need one to fit the Klune-v.
