Probably not the best title... I just bought a set of Ambi doors and would like to get them stripped (dipped) to see what Im working with... I live in the Phoenix area, can anyone recommend a stripper, I'll also need to take it somewhere to have them primed, any recomendations there? Thanks in advance!

There used to be a place in Tempe, Rural and University area. Talked to them several years ago about doors seems like it was going to be about $75 per door
and the primered them after dipping.

I just had all my bodywork stripped (in SC, so no help). If you google search, you should be able to find some.

Hemmings Motor News had classified ads with strippers. There aren't many of them. I live in Jacksonville FL and the only 2 near me are near Miami and South Carolina- each of them a 5+ hour drive

For primer: look into "E coat". They dip the parts and use electric current to bond paint. Cool part is that it gets inside things (like inside the doors). Once paint adheres, it loses its conductivity so eventually you'll only have conductivity on the inside parts and it will stick there (unlike galvanizing type process which only works on exposed, outer surfaces unless you stick an electrode inside the part). I'm considering having my cowl E-coated once I finish the rust repairs since with paint it will be hard to get things like inside the golve box, back side of the dash etc.

Hi - if you find someone that does this in Arizona, please post it to the forum...ditto on the E-dipping. I'm getting to the point with my restoration I'll need this done too.

I'm also in Phoenix and would love the name of a good stripper (and the name of a shop near the strip club that can remove the paint from my truck!) :D
All joking aside, please post the name of the shop if you find one local.

stripper

The name of the shop in Tempe is Redi Strip. They are on Rio Salado Pkwy between Mc clintock and the 101. I had them strip the frame of my 40 years ago, they do great work and the price was good too. Just don't fall into the vat of that stuff, who knows whats in there?

I've used them many times. Price is reasonable, you may have to speak Spanish if you pick up after 3pm though. At least that was my experience last time.

I would recommend that you NOT have body parts chemically stripped
unless you are going to be able to have them electro galvanized afterwards.
I had a windshield frame dip stripped and it rusted from the inside out.
Another alternative would be to drill holes in hollow parts and bathe the
inside of the parts with epoxy primer or some other type of sealer.

I would recommend media blasting as an alternative because the factory
coatings will still be there on the inside of the parts.

That's one reason I suggested the E-coat. I had my windhsield frame done, but I am going to de-skin it to repair rust so I'll be able to paint the inside. I think a lot of frames are already rusting on the inside, so I'm not sure keeping the 'factory coating' is really valid for a lot of older windshield frames and also doors.
