I was wondering the best way to get the old stud out and put a new one in. Is it necessary to drop the axle to do this or can it be done by just beating the crap out of it with a hammer. Also if I leave the axle in place how do you get enough force behind the new stud to push it back through into place. Not much room back there to hit it with anything. Thanks for any advice.

Use a BFH to remove. There's enough room. To replace, put the lug nut on and tighten to draw in...

It may seem like its pressed in but it will come out. Penetrating oil soak may help...

If you are referring to the front wheel studs, you will have to remove the rotor assembly. Not difficult. You have the FSM? Requires removal of the locking hub and locking nuts on the wheel bearings. Once off, you will see exactly what to do. Mine came off with a small hammer and a punch. Use some penatrating oil as mentioned earlier.

I would remove the rotor too first before using a BFH. You might screw something up hitting while it is installed on it.I scarificed a lug nut and used a small piece of wood to hit the stud out of the rotor. If you are replacing the wheel stud anyways just hit it directly with the BFH.

It's actually for the rear passenger side. The lug nut that was on it is stripped out also, so I figured I'd just put in back on the stud and hit it that way. I'm also replacing the brake cylinder because it's leaking a little bit. I've replace it once just using a kit from Auto Zone about five or six months ago, but it's still slowly leaking, so I just figured I'd replace the whole cylinder. Thanks for advice, I'll probably be doing this on Wednesday or Thursday, so I'll let you all know how it turns out.

The biggest trick of it will be getting the new stud in behind the backing plate. As long as you can push it through up to the splines, the lug nut should pull it the rest of the way to seat it.

Well I put my wheel cylinder on and changed out my wheel stud yesterday. Not really hard at all. Couple of good hits on the stud and it's out. A lot easier than I had expected. Now time to swap out my wheels with the new ones I got for Christmas.
