Figured I would share my pain with the group.

I installed a Slee Diff Drop on my '99 LX today. Ref: '99 LX sitting about 2.5" above stock. I was very happy until my drivers side CV decided to come apart. I had been suspicious of it since I bought the truck a few months ago, but hoped the feedback I was feeling was a result of strained CV angles.... turns out not so much. Let me disclose here that the diff drop should have nothing to do with the problem I experienced (to the best of my knowledge) and Slee has been awesome and amazingly helpful (this is not in any way a bad slee review).

I took the truck out after the install and within a few blocks...pop, grind, and it was obvious something in the driveline had disconnected. Luckily I wasnt going fast and only took about 5yrds to pull over. Got under the truck to find the inboard (differential side) joint was still in place and the hub side still happy, but the shaft had pulled away from the inner joint, pulling the boot off with it... Something I've never heard of these doing before.

So I started calling around for insight and some info. After a few calls and a few service advisors trying to scare me into thinking it was something with my front diff, I called Slee (shouldve called them first). I was informed that this is almost unheard of. They did provide some potential insight though:

Their guess was that the truck might have been rebooted at some point before I purchased it. If the shop or individual who did the work forgot to install the large snap-ring in the inboard CV it could explain the situation I found myself in. The other thought was that it might've somehow broken that snap ring.

I apologize I have no pictures, by the time I thought to snap a photo it was too dark.

I will follow up tomorrow with pictures and information once I've pulled the CV and gotten it apart. In the meantime, anyone else experienced anything similar?

Slee's suggestions make perfect sense. I bet the snap ring is missing.

Completely uneventful follow-up. Got it apart to find a tripod style joint in the inboard tulip. Means it was NAPA or other aftermarket and was destined to break before it was even installed.

Bummer. A lot better to find out on the street than on the trail, though.
