IMHO not cheap enough. That year has the 3fe motor, which is a great, indestructible motor but underpowered for the truck. 93+ got the 1fz-fe, with significantly more power. You can pick up 93-94's for around $4k all day, or keep an eye out and get them for much less.

yep, I had a Pink Panty Mobile and lost it in the divorce - hurt - still hurts - I should have said the 91-92 80 Series...

I hear what your saying on the 92 and it does have high miles - but that engine is stout...but I agree underpowered for the vehicle.

Well, as long as you're informed it all comes down to the individual truck. Sorry I'm no where near Flag. No, seriously- I'd much prefer to be in Flag this time of year. :D

Hey Spike - I hear ya - Flagstaff is nice this time of year -

I know Claudia will be driving it - and I am hoping to eventually once the motor dies - convert it to diesel. with a small old man emu lift -

Unless you can pick up a 91-92 for $1000 I would really keep looking. I have a 92 FJ80 with an OME lift, 33’s, ARB front bumper, and winch. She does a great job offroad and is a great ski truck for its room, comfort, and dealing with bomb cratered ski roads BUT the 3F motor is the wrong motor for that truck. If you lived in Nebraska you would never have a problem with it but as soon as you head up the mountain she falls on her face. I’m convinced that she will never leave me stranded on the trail but I’m not so confident she won’t toss a rod heading up I-17. On the last trail run at Payette draw I was passed by Tacomas’ pulling trail rigs on a trailer. The 3F will need to use 1st and 2nd all the way up the hill and she is working damn hard. I drove her to Nebraska and back at Christmas, on the way out we went through Colorado and I don’t think she got out of second gear until we got off the toll road. On the way back we went south through Oklahoma and she did much better but the mountains will kill you.

In the last month there have been 3 93+ FJ80s’ on CL for $4000.00, one even had lockers. I would really hold out for the FZJ. If you do get one with the 3F motor let me know so I have someone drive with at the back of the pack on the way to the trail head.

So, it's not just the 60 series

(snip)but I’m not so confident she won’t toss a rod heading up I-17.(snip) If you do get one with the 3F motor let me know so I have someone drive with at the back of the pack on the way to the trail head.

Wow, something that makes this ol FJ60 owner happy. I'm not the only one with a going uphill dog. :) Even the short grade going up Madera Canyon took using 2nd and 3rd a lot.
