Join the staff of Four Wheeler, Petersen's 4Wheel & Off-road, 4Wheel Drive & Sport Utility, Off-Road Magazine, Jp and Diesel Power clean up Stoddard Valley.
We'll provide you with gloves, trash bags, food, entertainment and lots of giveaways. We just need you to donate your time and energy to help keep one of our favorite off road areas clean.

Here’s how it works; you bring in a load of trash, you get a raffle ticket, at the end of the day we’ll raffle-off all the prizes. Four Wheeler TV also will be there to document the entire event. Hope to see you there.

Make sure you bump this closer to the event. Too far out to plan for it right now. I know I have a scout trip the weekend before this, so my golf fix may come first, but we'll see.

If a bunch more cruiser owners plan on making a day out of it, it could be fun!

I might be up for this -

Sounds like it might be cool - for a buncha Cruisers to show up -

Cool, I bring back a bag of trash everytime I cruise in the desert. It's just that the old couches don't fit in the 55. I love living in the desert, but we have a load of scum ass tweekers that would rather spend $20 a month on a little speed than a trash pickup.

Snailwagon there will be lots of pickup out there to pick up the big stuff. Most just hook up a chain to the big stuff, shift in 4low and drag it back. Hope to see you out there, most of us magazine staffers will out there the night before so if you want make it an overnight affair.

Terrific! Come on out on Friday if you have the time. We will be wheeling around all day and night, clean up is on Sat.

Stoddard Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Area

http://www.ca.blm.gov/barstow/stoddard.html

Here’s the info page:http://fourwheeler.com/eventcoverage/129_0512_clean/

Access:
The riding area is triangular-shaped, formed by Interstate 15 and California Highway 247 (Barstow Road), immediately south of Barstow, California. Most visitors access the area to the east, off Interstate-15 at the Outlet Center Drive Exit (Sidewinder Road) or at the Hodge Road Exit, south of there. From California Highway 247 (take Barstow Road Exit from I-15 and go south), 10 miles south of Barstow, turn either on Stoddard Wells Road or on the access road behind the Slash-X Cafe. All of these entrances are dirt roads.

Stoddard Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Area offers a diverse landscape for off-highway vehicle recreation. The area is characterized by steep rocky mountains, rolling hills, open valleys, and winding sandy washes. Elevations range from 5,000-foot Stoddard Peak, to 2,800 feet at Turtle Valley. Vegetation consists of creosote scrub, some annual grasses and wild flowers and the Joshua tree, symbol of the Mojave Desert.

anyone up for this run?

Not going to be able to make it. Rear brake job planned this coming weekend. Ran up to the mountains this past weekend with the scouts on 1mm rear pads and what dealer described as a slightly concave warped rear rotor as well. Both going to be replaced!

Have fun and bring back lots of trash! Great service guys (and gals)!

should be in the desert a little ways, my understanding is that they are going to mark the area and several large support trucks will be there, IE tire companies or rock crawling teams. The link at the top might tell you more

THe link to the event info doesn't say squat, just the vacinity and time. The email adress for questions also was returned to sender for me. Just curious where and if preregistrations is required. Whatever though, I can wander through the desert on my own and have the same amount of fun I have almost every weekend.

Snailwagon sorry if you are having any problems, please e-mail Eddy.CebrecoJr@primedia.com and he will make sure you get pre-registered. It is not required to attend but if we know you are coming we will factor it in for food and prizes.

Even though there will not be much cruiser representation here, here is the last minute bump info that was sent to me. Anyone that has driven in the high desert area knows about the illegal dumping problem. Johnson Valley, Stoddard Wells, Juniper Flats, Silverwood, even some areas of Holcomb Valley (John Bull and Holcomb Creek area) are all littered. Most of it is due to the high standard of trailer park living that many tweekers employ. A little of it is due to the municipal dump and the trash nazis that run the place. They like to charge double if your load isn't covered to their standards when you drive up, pocketing the extra $ no doubt.

Now cleanup may not sound too exciting, but last year cars, trash, couches, and even a dead body were removed from the area. No more bodies are expected this year.

We had a great time out there, while cleaning up the environment and getting in a little 4-wheeling. The turnout was good, and literally tons of trash were collected.

I really think this project should be semi-annually, rather than just annually.

Surely a worth while event with plenty of challenges around. Pretty clean area now. Not too many cruisers there, a 55, a 40, an 80 and a 100 series, and a few hundred other 4x4s about. We ended up going off in our own direction only to have the jeep in the group have constant electrical problems and an amazing radiator eating fan, again.

I want to thank everyone who came out for the clean up. It was a huge success; we filled five of the huge thrash dumpsters. I believe we had over six hundred people attend the clean up, truly and assume effort. If any other clubs do a clean up please e-mail me the time, place and date. We will run a press release in the magazines.

Pictures of the event are here:

Thank You

Tare

we wanna know about the raffle! won anything? :)

There were a ton of prizes given out. Although I did help with the clean up, I did not participate in the raffle. I did score a cool shirt though.
