I just bought my 40 a few weeks ago. A 72 that has been set up for 10+ years. I have it running now, and the next step is tires, or so I thought. While it has 4 identical looking steel wagon wheels I noticed one is a different size.

I am keeping the stock suspension for the foreseeable future, so I wanted to know what size were the factory wheels( 15 5.5's ??) Or, what recommendations do you guys have. I also want the biggest fattest looking tires I can get with the stock set up.

Thanks for all replys

Yes, the stock steelies are 15x5.5 with 3 1/2" backspacing. a 31/10.50/15 tire would look and work really well. Most people want a 33/10.50/15 tire, which is getting really hard to find, but definately go no wider than 10.50 on the tire width. I guess this is reason enough to shamelessly post a pic of my rig with the 31/10.50/15.

Yet another chance to post a pic! Heres 32/11.50/15 on stock wheels. Ran them for over a year with no issues. I'm sure no one on MUD would think this is a good idea........thats my disclaimer. but it has been done. I had to have them mounted at my local border brother's tire shop because no reputable tire shop will mount them.

I've always thought a 32/9.50 would be perfect for a '40. I just wish more manufacturers would produce them. The TSL's will look perfect. They won't be as good on the road as a radial AT. but if you're going to wheel it go for it! Post up some pics of your truck.

Bias ply is not too bad! Its an ol' nasty rig, its gonna be a bit rough but its a truck!

What/where are you guys finding 32/10.50/15? All I could find was 11.50?

What's the problem with MUD opinions and tire shops - mounting 11.50's on the 5.5 rim? I'm painting up some old 15x8 wagon wheels for my fj60 - mounting 10.50 0r 11.50 should be no problem, right?

Thanks, RJ
