i have an 01 taco with the stock electric locker on the rear, the light that tells me its on is staying on . i cant tell if its actually turning off or not..... i need help

youll be able to hear the rears chirping and drivetrain binding during a slow speed tight turn on pavement. if you hit the button to the off position, try doing some figure 8's in both directions. going into neutral or reverse momentarily also disengages the locker as well.

well its coming out fine, the light just doesnt turn off....now its time for the dumb question, will the locker work in 2wd.

It will if you do the 'grey' wire modification. Toyota tries to keep you from doing it- but it's easy to bypass their efforts. (Technically it is the blue or red wire on a 4runner)

Go to 4x4 compter box by your left foot, cut the gray wire. That how you do it.

I forgot to tell you you have to ground the gray wire to the body.:wrench:

I'm not a big fan of mods that provide no reversal. Cutting wires in my book is a big no no. I'd rather take a pin removal tool and back the uncut wire out of the housing. That way if you ever change your mind... Either way query for the procedure as it's documented in a few sites.

As for the light not going out, you may want to check the position indicator on the diff. Not sure of the location on the Taco, on the '80 it's next to the actuator and unscrews. After that, try chasing the wiring for a short. Good luck.
