I just bought a '11 FJ -- ordered from the dealer with the wheel upgrade package among other options. I guess wheel upgrade doesn't include tire upgrade. These Bridgestone Dueler H/Ts look disappointing. They are nice on the road but I'm wondering my odds of getting stuck in the mountains of Colorado next month. I can't wait to find out!

They suck off road. They are tires, so yeah they'll work, but if you get into anything, sand, mud, piles of dead chickens, you'll lose traction.

Agreed.

But...tires were one of my last upgrades, call me weird. For me, I wanted to know the other things I was planning and spent building up my rig, driving/beating/abusing the stock rubber. That way, I didn't burn resources on tires that I'd wind up replacing down the road. I went from stock to 255/85/16's and now running 35 X 10.50 X 16's in 65k miles.

Just my 2 cents...

I just hope I'm not embarrassed by my brother's Trailblazer.

^^x3!

That's the one thing I'm dreading about replacing the tires on my otherwise stock FJ. I've been planning to stay with the stock size, which will help, but lately I've also taken to checking the weight of replacement tires as well. Since 99% of my travel is commuting and highway miles I could just get another set of the OEM tires, but I can't shake the feeling that it's just wasted money. Thinking of going with Goodyear Duratracs or Falken (Discount Tire) Rocky Mountain ATS in a C Load Range, and both are only 5lbs heavier (each) that the OE tires.

Let us know how things went.

x4!!
i had 285/75-16R on mine and was getting 16mpg on a good day. prob didnt help that they were E load range from my previous ford diesel that i traded in for the FJC.

I'll play devil's advocate here and say that it may be easier to sell your stock tires now while they are young. If you really intend to upgrade your tires for practical reasons, then sell the stock tires now while you can still get a decent buck for them. I did run my stock tires for about 4-5 months before upgrading to BFG AT's and a lift. I was surprised at how well the Dueler HT's worked in the light to moderate wheeling I did with them. I was however skeered that I would puncture a sidewall, since they are very thin, and took great care that I did not rub the sidewalls on obstacles.

I get 17 mpg city and 20 mpg hiway with my BFG AT/KO 265/75/16's which are E rated and very heavy.
