When you guys added a new 4 channel amp... did you rewire the speakers? Or did you use the factory Toyota speaker wires?

I plan on putting the amp under the passenger seat if it will fit. It is a Alpine 75X4 rms.

It would sure be slick if I could just use the Toyota wires!

I plan on running a 4 gauge power wire on a Blue Seas fuse block for interior mods down the road.

You can use the stock wires but you will get better sound if you run new ones. Depending on your ear and how and what you listen to you may or may not notice the difference.

agreed. just make sure you run new power wire and create a new ground. the speaker wires are fine to reuse but i would not reuse the power and ground with that amp.

Thanks guys :)

I will install a ground close to the amp, a Mega Fuse will be installed on 4 AWG wire close to the Battery! The Amp has two fuses.

Is there any reason to install a Metra Amp Harness? 70-8117? My 06 Cruiser has the JBL system sans Navi. Amazon.com: Metra 70-8117 Factory Amplifier Harness for 2004-Up Toyota Vehicles with JBL Sound System: Car Electronics

Hi guys, I have a similar Rig as Sr. Grigo, 06 no Navi.
I'm getting informed on how to go about installing my new stereo and getting to use the stock speakers.
I also have a two year old JL Audio Sub and amplifier that I want to add to the system.
Similar to Sr. Gringo I would like to use the existing Speaker wires In order to avoid having to take any panels off my doors.
Do I need any special connector adapter for the aftermarket head unit? My Head unit is a DVD Alpine Stereo
What would be a good amplifier to consider to power my speakers? The stereo shop that is going to work on my rig is suggesting a Jensen, but since I intend to keep my rig for a long time I'm thinking of getting something with better quality, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advanced.

I had to take the panel off one of my doors this summer (front passenger's). It is a super easy task, all you need is one screwdriver, undo some screws, release some clips and you are done. My point being that I would not let that drive your decision.

Personally I think the stock speaker wires at 16ga are fine unless you are putting a competition style system in, in which case you would certainly have to remove the door panels.

Thank you for your reply. I forgot to mention the main reason I would not like to remove any door panels.
My LC is armored, I could certainly remove the screws and panel but the armoring company had to work on the door panels as the would become loose after a while and fall off. They fixed that but they advised it would be best to leave them as is.
Looks like it is a good option to keep the oem cables, I'm just looking for nicer definition.
In fact I just wanted to add the head unit and add the small subwoofer I already have, I would not mind using the existing oem amplifier. But I'm not sure if that is possible by just buying the oem to aftermarket Toyota adapter and just run the RCA connectors for the amp and subwoofer.

Amigo,

I ended up running all new wires because many complained of interference. Running the new wires is time consuming but may not be as difficult as you think. Also I purchased everything at Amazon...

I put my amp under the passenger seat...removed the Toyota amp.

For my 1st 100 it took me 18 months to find a nice example that was not armored in Mexico... Be interesting to know what was used to armor the doors.

The project for this week is to wire up the stereo, speakers, and amp in my wife's cruiser.

Go ahead and p.m. me if you have any questions.
