stock senders / aftermarket gauges

After the ingenious advise i got from y'all on my oil pressure problems i have decided to upgrade all my gauges. i searched the forums regaurding stock senders and aftermarket gauges. i didnt find the answers i was looking for. can you use the stock temp sensor with an aftermarket gauge?

No. And I am partial to mechanical gauges.

generally the stock senders are as bad as the guages. In fact I need to buy a new sender for 70 oil pressure

I think i'm gonna go your route (mechanical) what is the thread pitch?

Looks like the mechanical oil pressure gauges are 1/8 npt and the mechanical water temps are 5/8 - 18 UNF. I am planning on ponying up for the braided SS lines on the oil pressure. Went with Autometer Z (I think) and bought them on ebay.
