I justed picked up a 2000 LC and it has the Pioneer AVIC D1 installed with a seperate Alpine amp. It sounds incredilble but the wife hates the touchscreen and wants stock. Does anyone know what the part number is for the stock radio? I'll keep the amp since someone did a great job installing it. Thanks!

The stock radio suuuuuuuuuuucks, and the CD changer will soon die, leaving you with an incredibly expensive AM/FM radio (unless you still have tapes?). Find another aftermarket one she likes. Most have upgraded the head unit because they had too. I love my kenwood. It has a knob for volume, and the nav, bluetooth, dvd, xm, and ipod bring the truck's radio into the correct decade.

I still have my OEM 2000 stereo. The only thing wrong with it is the CD player is broke, the volume/power knob is broke, and it has poor reception. Painful.

Double check with Cdan or Beno (or your local dealer), but Toyota parts zone east shows the MY 2000 as discontinued. Pretty sure you could make a MY '99 work, but at $1500-$1700 new, why would you? You might be able to find a used one that has a functioning CD player, but odds are slim it will continue that way for long, however, it'll be much cheaper. Not sure what wiriing issues you'll run into - depends on what they did to the stock harness when upgrading the HU and amp. A clean install should be fairly straightforward to do, but a hacked one could be a mess...

btw, good reference site...

if your stock audio player bonked, upgrade with anthing that suits your needs

I will. Lift, tires, headers, and bumper had to come first. Priorities!

First off, welcome to the 'Mud!

I swear that I must be the only person on here with a properly functioning OEM headunit. Sound quality straight up blows though, no question. I'm no audiophile by any means, but even the OEM Bose stereo on my 2000 Yukon (same model year) was light years ahead of the crap the Mr. T threw in their flagship SUV until 2003. It's never given me a lick of trouble, but now that I've said that it will probably short out and set the truck on fire tomorrow.

If you are used to the sound quality of a nice aftermarket head unit, you will feel like you've stepped into the stone age by throwing a [grossly overpriced] OEM stereo back in. Find an aftermarket unit that your wife likes, and switch it out. You said yourself that the stereo was nicely installed - find something you both like that will take advantage of that amp. Theres no reason to take such a huge step back when so many better aftermarket options are out there.

I would be happy to pull my perfectly working head unit and swap it our for yours.

Found one, gonna give it a try. I'll hang on to the Pioneer since it sounds like the stocker is not Toyota's best work.
Next I have to lose the running boards and get some real tires!

BTW, love your name. What year?

Wow, I feel fortunate that I have not had to sink $$ into a new audio unit! My 2000 is still using the stock unit and all of it works. I keep 6 cd's in it and have an Ice Link with my Ipod attached too. I always thought the reception sucked, but found that Toyota kinked the antenna wire under the fender. straightened out the kink and it receives stations just fine.

Mine was fully operational when removed. Just wasn't what we were looking for regarding functionality.

Added GPS, Bluetooth, DVD, USB, SDCard, iPod, etc. Cheaper than buying a new ride.

I should check mine.

Recently sold it, 86 Coupe black/black. My wife actually cried as it left the driveway and she's after me to get another...now looking, 993, maybe 997.

Wives are great with those things. She bought mine for me. Was sitting in the driveway for our 15th anniversary, with a bow on top. Air cooled - stay with the 993.
