I am putting in a carbed 350, which of my gauges are going to work.
I know the tach is going to read faster, but what about my speedo (it is connected to the tcase isn't it?), how do I hook up the voltmeter gauge to a one wire GM alternator?
as well as the temp sender and oil pressure? (since the fuel level sender won't change).

or should I buy new gauges from autometer?

hey- dude good choice with the 350. i've had both and although there are advantages to the 2f and it is an awesome engine, the 350 kicks bootay!! the only guages that continue to work are the speedo, the fuel guage, and voltmeter. you'll have to get a new tach, oil pressur, and temp sender guage. not to change the subject or anything but what tranny are you going to use in the conversion? i had a th400 in one of mine and now have a ranger torque splitter with the stock 4 speed and it is awesome. the torque splitter cost around $1300, which sounds like a lot of $$ up front, but it saves you in the end when you consider things like drivline mods, bellhousing adapter, headache of moving the tranny forward to clear the distributor, all the things that nickle and dime you. plus it's awesome cruising at 80 mph with the rpm at +/- 2700. if you have any q's just ask. sorry to change the subject on your thread!! i felt it was a worthy cause.

If Those aren't going to work, that means I am going to have to get an entire new cluster because of the 4 in 1 gauge. Are they just cylinder style gauges that I can replace with the autometer 4 in 1 gauge package.

I am using the stock 4 spd with the AA adapter, had a custom cross member built to make it work, and shorten the front driveshaft.

You can buy the adapters for both the Toyota water temp sensor and the oil pressure sensor. The volt meter will work by using the factory harness and wiring it correctly. In other words, you can use the Toyota sensors and all gauges will work fine. The tach can be recalibrated with a potentiometer from Radio Shack, or sent off for recalibration.

Are those made to work in my 87 fj60?

I bought a temp sensor bushing from MAF, and it doesn't fit anywhere.

how exacltly would one go about recalibrating the tach?

what size potentiometer do I need to buy from RadioShack?

Here is dredging sometnhing up from the dead..

I am very curious about the tach thing.

Gary, is there a writeup somewhere on this??

I dont know how different they are, but I used all my factory FJ40 gauges with my 400 SBC. There are adapters available.

I did however use an Autometer water temp gauge because of the tendency of the 400 to run hot.

do a search, it has been written up before. and i use my temp and oil pressure and they work just fine and seem to read right. i took out the old tach and replaced it with a $30 sunpro that fits in the stock location

ditto on vette60s answer. all my gauges are stock and work fine except the tach and i replaced it with a sunpro. end of problem.

the only possible remaining issue is whether a 350 is REALLY overheating when the gauge is in the red. im not sure about this but it could well be that toyota makes their sending unit cause the gauge to look like its overheating to protect the engine from head warping etc but the chevy is a much more robust engine and can handle the heat better. i know that on mine on a hot day running hard the gauge approaches the red area (but doesnt enter it) yet the motor seems to be running reasonably cool or at least not obviously on its way to overheating.

call it a safety buffer if you will.

I use all of my stock guages with a 350 TPI engine. I purchased a T-fitting and run the chevy oil sender and the stock Toyota one off of the T- fitting. Volt meter is easy just follow the stock diagram and hook it up to the chey small white wire. Temp guage took a little fab but was still easy. I took a repacement thermostat housing drilled a hole and welded a bung on the side and just threaded in the stock sender. I get a temp reading right at the thermostat (hottest temp). I put the check engine light in the blank space on the 60 dash somtimes I have seen a choke or 4wd light but mine was a blank red space. see attached picture.

North Hollywood Spedo (In N. Hollywood, CA) did my tach for around $40. Fast & freindly service.
