Hi,currently in the process of building up my newly aquired fj60, build up has begun with the following and will be posting photos soon....so far installed.

1. man-a-fre shackle reversal (vehicle only 1/2 taller in front, without bull bar and 10,000 winch yet installed) bot looks level from side profile, oh yea sway bar and links removed.
2. man-a-fre ubolt flip kit
3. old man emu/dakar springs (mediums all around)
4. old man emu shocks
5. 33" Baja Claws (radials)
6. Mickey thompson classic II's (15x10) with proper backspacing (no rubbing)
7. 2f engine tuned up
8. grant steering wheel
9. new headlights
10. LF fender replaced (but vehicle not yet ready for body/paint yet)

So my question is what direction should be approached next, and am curious, since i've been a jeep guy for the last 8 years and am new to Toyota since selling the jeep......also can or has anyone installed cruise control on theirs, and am wondering if or how to tell what tranny , t-case i have.

any advice greatful.....I'm located in northern WA:cool:

Sounds great so far. Post up some pics! We love visual cruiser porn...

Standard advice is to make sure that the basic mechanics work great. Cooling system, powersteering pump, front axle condition, etc. Boring stuff, but should come first.

After that, it really depends on what you want to do? One approach to this question is to consider whether you're more of a "rock crawler" guy or an "expedition" guy. In the former case, if you come to a hard section, you choose it because it's fun, and if something breaks, so be it. In the case of an expedition guy, if you come to a hard section, you'd prefer to find a way around it, not because your a weenie, but because getting there and getting home in one piece are the priorities. Both valid approaches, but really different.

Build up will be very different depending on which path you prefer.

Make sure that you eliminate any rust that you have RIGHT NOW. It obviously is carnivorous and will consume your truck in a couple of years.

Moving on.... Your tranny is a H42 four speed and that is mated to a split-case TC. This is a great, bullet-proof combo in my opinion although a little slow.

If you search a little bit, you will be able to find the exact ratio of your year specific transfer case. It changed somewhere in the range of 84-86, but I'm not sure.

I never thought I needed an ARB bull bar (no winch on my Cruiser anytime soon), but after seeing about a half dozen threads on this board about Cruisers surviving accidents with barely a scratch thanks to their ARB, I'm really tempted. It's somehow shot to the top of my list..

Don't know about cruise control but newer, cushier seats would be nice, too.
