Stock 1984 FJ 60. I am downsizing my "Urban 60's Series Land Cruiser Museum". Having three 60's series trucks - two 62's and this 60 - in downtown Denver, CO is not practical for me anymore and my neighbors hate me for parking, but what can I say - I'm a fanatic ;).

I hate to sell this because it is super clean and is the perfect platform for a restoration or "really nice" :) cruiser. I know down the line I'll probably say to myself "I should've held on to that 60" as I hunt tirelessly for an "acceptable" platform for resto level work that is not $7,500 stock.

I thought hard about keeping this FJ 60 - even swapping my alcans/emu's, wheels, etc, until I could go big in spring, but in the end it is TOO NICE FOR ME. It deserves to go to a home where it will realize it's full potential!

Before I bought this truck, it had been in the same family since it rolled off the showroom floor. I bought it from a younger guy who had received it from his mom about 5 years ago when she got a newer LC. He drove it for a couple of years but didn't like how slow it was on the highway (why not!) so he bought a newer Tacoma. So there this un-molested stock FJ 60 sat for a couple of years (though the owner did have the mind to start it up and drive it every couple of months) until I bought it.

I do not drive this truck really at all. Besides driving it home 10 miles after I bought it, I start it and take it around the neighborhood every few weeks - that's it. I bought it with hopes of going crazy next spring 2011 - great paint, V8, SOA, all of my dreams - but then realized I don't have the time, space, or $20K to create my vision-quest Cruiser anytime soon, so I am selling this and sticking with the truck I can beat up a little bit guiltlessly and tote the dogs around in without the anxiety of them wrecking the interior.

a few specs and tidbits about this 84' FJ 62:
  • 248K
  • 99% Rust Free - (I can't say 100% rust free because you'll notice a small suspect area along the driver's side front mud flap and tip of rocker panel trim. See close-ups in pictures)
  • Interior beside small typical tear in drivers seat (pictured) is 7.5-8/10. With carpet cleaning and heavy detail, it could be 9/10. Headliner is beautiful. Dash awesome. The only thing wrong with the dash is the small crack in the speaker holes (pictured) but no cracks/blemishes on the main dash and instrument cluster.
  • Needs paint in my opinion - pretty faded in current state. This did not matter to me as I had plans to re-paint. 3 small dings on passenger side (pictured in photobucket album - see link below)
  • Steering Wheel Horn works :p (the horns never work LOL)!
  • All doors and the tailgate/hatch shut and open cleanly and solid. No rust on hinges or mounting points
  • I have a decent chunk of the records for the truck from the previous owning family.
  • Motor runs great. Classic 2FE goodness if you want to keep this engine.
  • 4x4 works great.
I'm not in a rush to sell. Truck just hangs out. I have a clean title in hand. The truck really just deserves to go to someone with the time and resource to do it up.

$3000. Or whatever is fair to an enthusiast who is interested in giving it a proper home. Feedback is welcome!

I have sold one 62, and have decided that I will keep my original 62 (pictured below for grins) because it is not all that nice (rust fenders and body damage) and I don't mind beating it up.

For sale again - BUMP!

The 60 is for sale again.

This is a great truck – very solid, straight body minus a few small dings (mentioned in original post and pictured on photobucket), and in good mechanical condition.

Stephen, one of the owners at Rocky Mountain Cruisers, thinks it is in good mechanical condition too. He also thinks its a good start for a restoration. He just looked at my cruiser on 11-8-10 for a customer of his. You are probably aware of Rocky Mountain Cruisers, but if not, they do partial to full blown LC restorations. www.rockymountaincruisers.com

For the client’s project and requirements, this truck was his first choice and the customer's first choice for an FJ 60. The customer was deciding between my 60 and another 62. They ended up going with the 62 for the fuel injected 3FE, Power windows/locks and auto tranny - mom will be driving the young kids around most of the time and she wants these features! She just let me know last week that she is going with the 62.

I checked back in with Stephen at Rocky Mountain Cruisers after she called, and he said that if anybody wanted to call and ask him about what he looked at and what he thought, they could. He also said I could mention the following:

· An acceptable and good platform for a restoration
· Good, clean frame
· Good shape mechanically - solid daily driver for someone if it was not used as platform for restoration
· Straight body
· Rear quarters have NO rust what-so-ever. In a restorative situation he estimated that it would save $1000 per side in cut-out/weld-in costs alone.
· Almost completely rust free - there are a few small spots of surface rust at the tips of the rocker panel trim on both sides (driver's side pictured on ad post) but nothing he was scared of at all

Restore it or drive it - this is an awesome truck! Come check it out.

ALSO - Just completed a thorough inspection and tune-up on 11-21-10 with my friend Pete from FrontRange 4x4 (thanks Pete!!). Details to follow shortly.

Truck Mechanical - BUMP!!

As promised, the following is a detailed list with notes about the truck from Sunday’s inspection and tune-up. I have Pete Brody from Front Range 4x4 to thank for helping me out so much! View Profile: Brody - Front Range 4x4 Forums

He was nice enough to put together a detailed list and notes. Everything is below – it’s all out there!

A great truck – runs better than my 62 ;). Maybe I should keep it instead…

From Pete:

· Tightened carburetor mounting bolts
· Ran Sea Foam through carburetor
· Tightened all engine bolts on top side
· Cleaned and tightened battery connections
· Cleaned motor ground wire
· Checked all vacuum hoses
· Replaced damaged vacuum lines – approx 4 feet total
· Cleaned all one way vacuum valves
· Repaired damaged vacuum fittings x2
· Replaced fuel filter
· Checked all hoses
· Checked all belts
· Checked brakes
· Checked differential fluid front and rear. Added fluid as needed
· Checked transfer case fluid. Added fluid as needed.
· Checked oil
· Checked brake fluid. Added fluid as needed.
· Checked clutch
· Checked clutch fluid. Added fluid as needed.
· Checked air filter
· Checked and cleaned all spark plugs
· Checked distributor cap, plug wires and rotor – Cap and rotor almost brand new
· Checked tire pressure and filled as needed: 35psi front, 32psi rear.
· Cleaned engine compartment

General report:
Engine runs very well and seems to have been maintained to a fairly high standard. The oil was recently changed and is very clean. The distributor cap and rotor are almost new and in very good shape. The plug wires seem to be in very good shape and show no signs of abnormal wear. All of the plugs showed a very uniform combustion pattern with no indication of oil burning, rich or lean problems or any other problems indicative of engine malfunction. The engine starts and runs very well throughout the entire RPM range with only a slight hesitation on the lower band, hot or cold.
All of the hoses and fan belts seem to be in good shape and show no signs of excessive wear.

Notes:
1. Slight hesitation is due to a very small vacuum leak at the base of the carburetor and is probably a result of a slightly worn gasket. This may seal itself in time as the carburetor is now tightened down, but if it doesn’t, this gasket will have to be replaced sometime in the future. As it is, it isn’t a problem, just something to be aware of.

2. There is also what seems to be a persistent small leak on the top of the power steering box, causing fluid to build up on the outside of the box over a long time. This is probably due to a loose hose fitting. I didn’t clean this area off enough to see what was actually causing the problem as I didn’t have access to a pressure washer, but it seems to be having no affect whatsoever on the steering itself, other than to be leaking slightly. There seemed to be no actual air in the line as there were no hard steer problems.

**Drives and handles great at highway speeds. I drove it on the Interstate at 65-70 mph last night and it felt solid. I am also going to degrease and pressure wash over the next few days to see if we can pinpoint source. -Matt

3. At some point, the EGR valve assembly will have to be either serviced (ie:rebuilt) or replaced. Again, this isn’t a pressing problem, just something to be aware of. This could be the cause of the slight hesitation in the lower RPM band, also.

4. Passenger side rear tire shows weather cracking to a slight degree. This needs to be addressed at some point, but is not of immediate concern.

**I have another set of nice 60’s series wheels with pretty good rubber that the buyer can swap if they would like. -Matt

Summary:
This is an extremely well maintained vehicle and is in remarkable shape for the age of the vehicle and mileage.

It's a beauty! Wish I had the $$ laying around, but I'm still months away from being able to afford my own Cruiser.

Thank you!

It is super clean - perfect for a restoration (mild to wild), or a great daily driver.

At least your just months away - better than being years away ;)!

Land Cruisers have definitely sucked up some money at points, but overall they have been the most reliable and useful vehicles I have ever owned, not to mention fully paid off! That never happened before I owned these trucks!!

Yeah, I've never owned a Land Cruiser but I would really like to get one. I was thinking about an 80 at first, but recently I'm looking more at the 60 because it would allow me to keep my 4Runner (2WD) for my DD, but still have a very capable offroad vehicle for weekends and such.

Do you think this truck is capable of making the drive back to Fort Worth?

I definitely think this truck is capable of making it back to Ft Worth. I would make sure to swap on my nicer set of 60 wheels and tires for you as well - lots of rubber on those.

It's running great! After the tune-up mentioned above, and driving it myself on the highway and around town a bit in the last few days, I would have no apprehension about being the driver or passenger on a trip from Denver to Ft Worth.
