All new lines and threw in the garage alignment see atached pics came out really well.:wrench::bang::beer::wrench::cheers::clap:

wow i need to get out to the rubicon some time.
what going on with your steering Rick?

Help me out...

My last Rubicon trip I blew the power steering pump and then a birfield.I was locked , fully turned , and could not go forward so I had to back up and then boom the familiar sound.

:grinpimp:#1 I put in a new set of 30 spline longfields 2nd generation

#2 I replaced the power steering pump

:hhmm:#3 My steering problems started on the first test drive (only w/ hubs locked) :wrench:GM SAGINAW STEERING:wrench:

 Wheeled 3 times and dealt w/ it Mabell and field n forrest....GOOD TIMES....
#4 I had the steering gear box rebuilt ( PSC Power Steering Components) and plumbed for ram assist.

:bang:#5 replaced the pump again and checked all lines + added a cooler (seemed to be over heating the fluid) lots of resistance.

#6 Called Bobby Long and he stated pull the tie rod and if the longfields are binding you'll know by moving the tire..DONE...no binding.

:flipoff2:#7 maybe check out-going pressure of the pump s/b 1100 to 1400 psi (dont have tester)

:meh:#8 All steering seems to go back to the pump must need more guts......I haven't checked out-going pump pressure yet?

:hhmm:#9 Pressure isn't always the answer fluid flow is where it's at.

:bang:#10 Ram assist will be slow to respond on the road?

 Any bright ideas or input will be WELCOME...:beer:

id go with the ram assist should not hinder any steering response with the right setup:D

what size cooler are you using? i know of people burn out power steering pumps cause the oil is not cool enough just installed a BIG cooler on a project 80 that im working on it has to be big enough to cool a hydro winch and power steering on an 80 running 35"s

let me know if you need a hand

What can you tell us about the pump?

Was the box rebuilt by PSC or by someone else using PSC components?

What size are the preassure and return lines?

Can you post some pics of the set up from the side, front and lines/fittings? Showing the geometry of the drag link, length of the pitman arm and such.

Do you have the assist ram on the truck now? What size is it?How did it change things?

Matt

 p-style pump as was on there before (used to work o.k. )

Box was rebuilt by PSC

Lines standard Gm

High steer and all 1 ton rod ends

Everything use to work good until the 30 spline long install :hhmm:

Pulled all the rod ends yesterday and new ones are on the way .After its all back together I'll post up some pics..

No ram assist installed so far that was my next option. My concern was street manners, but the box is plumbed.

Did you change a bunch of stuff at the same time?

The ram assist will work fine under all conditions if you have the right size ram, however you will most likely need to do the "flow mod" to the output fitting on the pump. Do not stretch the spring as some say (it doesn't last) and do not increase the orifice size very much or it will allow the pump to move to much fluid causing cavitation.

Matt

I re-packed the front wheel bearings put in the longfields and a new pump nothing major at the time.
 Nat how have you been? Hows the 80 project going?

been good keeping busy with toyotas:D 80 project is going great, head is on after the port and polish and the super charger goes on this weekend and maybe the snorkel if we have time. this is going to be one fast truck:D
