I have a Stihl MS180C. Saw was running back in September. I tried to cut some wood over the weekend. The saw starts and idles, but when you try to give it any type of gas it stalls out. I cleaned the air filter. I readjusted the carburetor per the manual's instructions, not any better.

Any ideas?

Thank You!

Make sure your fuel line from the tank to the carb is not cracked and brittle in any way. If it is it will not pull fuel into your carb.

What snobdds said plus the fact your carburetor diaphragms probably dried out a bit adn got stiff on you. The new fuel running across them should soften them up a bit and it may snap out of it. If not, install new carburetor diaphragms.

Wow....been sometime since I was last here. I got around to checking what was mentioned and found the fuel line was split inside the tank. Replaced the line and spark plug and now nothing. I checked spark plug for spark, which it did have, but the plug looks dry not getting any gas now. I also cleaned the breather tube.

Sounds like the inlet needle may be stuck. Remove the airfilter and stick a rag tightly into the throat of the airfilter base. You are creating a Hard Choke inside the carburetor. Pull the starter rope adn once it "Pops" or tries to start, remove the rag. You can also use your thumb but it is a bit hard on the MS 180.

Thanks. Tried what you said and got it to start up. The saw will run for about 3 seconds and then shut down. Has the high RPM running sound...like normal sound, just before running out of gas.

I replaced the fuel line Wednesday...don't think I damaged the new one putting it back in, I'll check. Not the easiest thing to get back in.

Just wanted to mention that when I drained the fuel tank to work on the saw, there was a white material, never checked what it was almost looked like a waxy material, covering the bottom of the tank and the fuel filter screen.

I cleaned the fuel screen, don't know if any could have gotten by it and made it into the carb?
