I am a newbie to this forum, and have decided to re-build a Stihl 026 that had a scorched piston that I got for almost nothing. The piston and cylinder were pretty well toasted, but I thought I would try to clean the cylinder up to see how it would come out, using muriatic acid and emery paper.
The photos below show the before and after. I was surprised how well it came out, BUT there are two small defects that I can find with a felt tip, but not with my fingernail:
1. Small nick under the left side of the exhaust port.
2. Long tiny groove running to the right of the exhaust port.
You can just make them out in the photos below.
Is it worth trying to re-use this cylinder? Or should I just bite the bullet and buy a piston and cylinder combo?
Thanks for the opinions. I know its hard to tell from pics for sure.
