I was putting on a few stickers today. I actually got an older "4wheel drive" sticker/emblem that was on the back of 40's. my brother tried to convince me to put it on the body while i was just going to put it on a side window. Is it smart to put stickers right on the pain and how much difficulty is it to remove? i mean i know you could use a razor blad but that could mess up my paint. thanks.

Tear off what you can with your fingers and then use 3M general purpose cleaner or Goop Off to remove the remaining sticky. First test in an inconspicuous place, etc. etc. etc. Don't use razor blades on paint work. And don't run with sharp objects.

Brandon,

Depends on the sticker going on the paint. For example the vinyl stickers cut by the local banner shop should be able to be removed by that same shop. Banner shops have special adhesive removers and experience to not damage the paint. (You can buy the same stuff on line and do it yourself if you want to try.) However the longer the sticker is on more likely it would be noticeable once removed due to sun fade and lack of surface scratches matching the paint around it.

Stickers printed on who knows what are a bit of a roll of the dice to get it off cleanly.

Any non-sealed sticker printed on paper shouldn't be put on paint, as they hold water whenever they get wet. Actually, these shouldn't be put anywhere outdoors, so it's a moot point.

Vinyl stickers can be removed using a heat gun (hair dryer) to heat up the vinyl and soften the adhesive. Pull what you can off, and the remaining adhesive can be removed with standard automotive bug & tar remover. Make sure you wash it clean with water afterwards, though.

Metal blades bad! Plastic blades good!
You can get plastic razor blades made just for sticker removal on vehicles. (They load into the holders for the steel kind)

This is a complete kit like the banner shops use.

Can I walk realllllllly fast with sharp objects but not run?

I have just one sticker on the body -- the 4" red vinyl TEQ sticker on the rear hatch. Aside from the "Cruiserhead" emblem, I personally put everything else on either the sliding windows or the bumpers.

With the vinyl, I'd only be concerned about paint fade (around the sticker).

All this talk of 'vinyl' ... this should be moved to hardcore .. :D

You've got to really watch out with those rubber discs. If used properly, they won't harm the paint. But hold them in one spot for just a bit too long, they'll burn right through it.

These are really good. They look like standard stainless steel razor blades, but are made of plastic and won't harm the paint.

For the most part, though, on the size of stickers we are probably talking about, heating them up and removing any adhesive with a paint-friendly chemical will be perfect.

Anyone looking to put stickers on their truck...I got a great idea from Sean @ Roundup. He buys thin sheet magnets and sticks the stickers to the magnet, then cuts out around the sticker.

This lets you take them off to wash under them and lets you change them if you want. Here is his truck...and yes these are all "magnets".

Not the best picture but it will work. Hope Sean doesn't mind me passing along this cool tip.
