how long are those 1/16 rods? 8-10''s
if the machine isn't set/runing right, you're not going to get very far with them, even if everything is right you're still not going to get very far with them.

how many amps are you feeding them 20-30 if that?

i used both 8" and 10" 1/16. The box was just buzzing along and sounded right. I'm not sure how many amps, the box detail are in post #1

Pics ;)

Honestly, you are probably worrying about nothing. It is amazing how many rods you can go through in one sitting..

bump...

Is it possible to weld regular old exhaust pipe (the kind found in any generic auto parts store) with this cheap welder? I guess what I mean is, If I did weld two exhaust pipe pieces together with it... would it be a legitimate weld? can it correctly penetrate and weld exhaust pipe. Is there a chart somewhere on the internet that I can match up the capabilities (only two settings) of my welder to the proper stick and the proper material thickness??

Exhaust pipe is thin and your stick welder should have no issues welding the pipe. I built my whole 40's exhaust system using off the shelf straight pipe and a few curves. It was actually fun welding on something so thin wall. The hardest part was getting the welder dialed in for the thin metal. I was blowing holes until I really turned down the heat on mine. Practice on some old pieces first and get the welder dialed in then build away.
