Hey guys,

Just got the '94 and picked up a new HU for it....I'm all for just tearing into the dash, but does anyone have any tips? A good starting point maybe?

Thanks!

what kind of tips are you looking for specifically?
wiring?
purchasing?
speaker?
subs?
general dash information?

remove the screws on the side panels, remove old stereo, replace it with new stereo. Your done. What brand to get?...... whatever you want. As long as it doesn't wake me up on the trail.

If I am correct, the trim piece around the stereo and below it just pulls out. (my camry, t100, 4runner, and landcruiser all worked this way.) It has a couple of spring loaded clips on the back. Yours should come out from the bottom first. Then you should see an aluminum bracket with four gold colored screws, phillips head or 8mm if you goof up the cross. Remove these, pull out stereo and plastic box along with bracket, unplug stereo, unscrew stereo and box from bracket and attach new radio to bracket. Splice in your new head unit or get a plug and play wiring harness adapter, reassemble and cruise.

Congrats BTW, it looks like a clean rig.

Are you putting a double din system or single? If you are going with the single, now would be a good time to replace that plastic shelf with a CB. Cobra 18 wxst fits good with a little dremel work on that trim piece and the cobra 18wxstII fits with no dremel work but you need to drill some holes in the stereo bracket to make it shift forward far enough

Hope this helps

Dan

It has been 10 years, but I think you need to pop off the cover for the ignition switch, open the glovebox and you'll see a screw....think there are a couple more on the lowest piece around the trans hump, pull from bottom gently, should come right out.

If you can afford a couple of notches forward from all the way back, an amp under the front seat and some slim truck speakers (I used some Pioneers with tweeters in the top) will really rock the Toy....

Yeah just questions about opening the dash up...do's and don't's (some good suggestions above already I see).

I got Sony CDX-F5000 that's ready for XM....
