In the quest to find another 6 disc changer, I bought one from a Highlander. I didn't know at the time, but it was too wide. It worked just fine sitting in the opening, but the bezel around it was a bit too small.
After looking at each a bit more, it appeard that the only difference was the face of the unit. The 'box' appeared to be the same. And I knew it was wired the same, at least on the harness plug. In my years in a manufacturing enviorment, I've learned to keep things easy on hte manufacturing floor. Im banking that the people making this toyota stereo thinks the same.
AFter a little prying on some clips, and whatnot. The face lifted off without a problem. It looks the same, only a tad bit wider.
Then, there is a bracket that holds the plastic face onto the box. There are about 7 screws on the land cruiser unit, and about 5 more on the wider Highlander unit. Remove the screws and give the bracket a gentle tug. Its somewhat stuck but comes off easily. You'll also have to remove the electric insulator as well. No big deal there at all. Here, I've installed the old bracket onto the new working box. I've also added the electric insulator plate. It just pops into place via 4 tabs. Two on top, two on bottom.
Here is the finished product.
It seems there are many 6 disc changers from the highlander and others out there. Yet hardly any that fit the LC. This will help you guys that want to keep the stock look, but want the 6 disc changer to work.
Enjoy.
