I am hopefully getting my rig back this week.:D I am putting a tuffy console in it with the stereo slot. Can anyone recommend a good stereo shop in asheville or upstate area? I want to keep it looking as factory as possible. nothing crazy just good sounding system. Any help is appreciated.

I just mounted my stereo in my tuffy console and it wasn't hard at all. I ran the wires through a loom under the carpet along the tranny hump on the passenger side. I slipped the head unit into a cage and then used the metal strap provided with the console to mount it, and that was it! I can snap some pics if it'd help.

EDIT: just read the post again and i sounds like you are looking to buy a stereo...regardless, the install is easy so if you do it yourself, it may save you a few $.

I took the aftermarket single DIN Pioneer out of my 62 last year and replaced it with a Scion pull out. Your can have the Pioneer if I still have it. (Worked great when taken out, just wanted something with a factory double din fit) Will check the parts box when I get home tonight. I also know of a good install shop in Asheville that does stereos, 2-way radios, and cells.

David, if you still have that radio, and Smoky doesn't want it, I'd gladly take it off your hands. Mine is shot.

More specifics? There are alot fo 80 guys who run single use the extra din for a CB or double din, which there alot of options. If you want to stay stock looking then go with the scion unit, search for it, tons of info out there. I have heard that the head unit can update the sound mor eso than speakers, but both makes a world of diff.

In the process of upgrading the 80 and trying to figure out options myself. At least mine is working just have one blown speaker and the CD player doesnt work. But man there is soem good FM radio out there!. :bounce:

Well I am thinking single din- it is going in a 60- stock locations in front- fitting under factory speaker cover and then maybe a few speakers in the rear a 2 way 6 1/2 and maybe a 7" or 8" on each side. Decent amp to power it all and thats it.

Carp, he doesn't want it, so you are next in line (IF I still have it). Will check the box this PM. Single DIN, use the the "mystery box underneath.

You need to decide if you want to do this yourself or pay to have it done. Dont go to a best buy, circuit city, or the like. Also what exactly are you wantign for a head unit?

Front doors - You have to be very careful here b/c there isnt much mounting depth.
Rear 1/4 panels - I think 6.5"s fit there. Most anythign will fit but not under the stock covers. (I think 62's may be diff?)
As far as a sub (You statment about 7 or 8") You only need one. They dotn make 7" I woudl go with a single 10" and build a box to fit over by your wheel well and back to the tailgate. I have seen it done in the 60 section a few time and it works well, can include storage, and doesnt take up floor space.

As far as powering it all you can do that with a decent head unit, the sub will need an amp.

Whats your budget for this? I love using eBay on alot of things, and have been burned with a few electronics purchases but save alot! Soem peopel dont like using it or anythign used, but I just could not afford alot of the cool toys I have gotten b/c I got them used.

And today's LUCKY DOG is . . .

Carp. Yep, it was in my Land Cruiser box and is a Pioneer "Premier" Mosfet 45wx4, whatever the heck that means. It was rocking when I took it out and has a CD player (old school?) And it is yours!

And, as an added bonus, the Toyota Pigtail is already properly attached - - just plug and play.

And as if that wasn't enough, your cost is 0 dollars. (Carp PM me you mailing address, or I will hold it till the next UC meeting)

And for those curious as to what your puppet president has been doing, I have included a bonus picture of my front yard as of yesterday!

What are those for in your yard? Retention wall/ erosion control?

:bounce:WooHoo! I'm the big winner!:bounce2: If you don't mind bringing it to OTMT or the next meeting, I can wait that long.

Thanks!

I will bring it to the next monthly meeting.

Those things in my front yard are the "new" drain lines for my 6 year old septic system. "It's always something"

Indian Doc,

The Upstate comes to Low Country starting Saturday. My family will be at Pawleys Island next week staying at the Sea View Inn. We will be driving the 2000 100, burgundy. May hit Charleston one morning if we can pry ourselves from the sand.

DAvid thanks for the hookup on ron from mobile- he is going to do it in august. Did you get all your gear from him or purchase and have him install?

I purchased then had him install, but I wish I had bought from him! He is a Sirrius dealer and he really knows what he is doing. Very small shop a stone's throw from my house.

I will be at his shop on the 16th- If your not busy maybe we could grab a bite to eat while I am killing time.

Great! That's a Saturday and I can take you to lunch in my 62 and maybe swing you by our unofficial "Cigar Store" sponsor.
